Hot off the press! 2024 State of Cloud Cost Report is now live. CloudZero's founding principle was that cloud cost optimization starts with engineers. Every engineering decision is a buying decision, and when engineers have complete visibility into their cloud costs, they can make smart buying decisions. These results only substantiate this principle. Better visibility leads to better engineering engagement, which in turn fuels better business outcomes — money saved, accountability promoted, profit maximized, and jobs secured.

This report has highlighted a different perspective (I should say lesser focused) of looking into the cloud costs i.e human emotion. If people are not feeling safe it is going to affect the ownership requirement. Like few years back during RPA initiative surge, now in cloud ecosystem, balance need to be drawn between organization specific effectiveness vs efficiency. #finops #markettrend #stateoffinops

About 9 in 10 respondents, representing companies with over 1000 employees, said in a survey late last year that their cloud analytics investments were contributing to their profitability. That’s a ringing endorsement of the value of shifting data analytics to the cloud. The early business case for the cloud was that it was more economical because of the “pay-as-you-use” model as compared to the stiff investments required for provisioning on-premise storage infrastructure. However, the cost advantage argument has lost steam in the time since. Today, enterprises are just as likely to worry about out-of-control cloud costs as they are about equipment costs. That being so, why is cloud analytics seen as contributing to profitability? I think this is a reflection of the value businesses believe they can extract from their cloud analytics strategy. They recognize that by moving data analytics to the cloud, the benefits can be made available to a much larger cross-section of their business users. This will make more decisions in more functions in more locations data-driven, opening up more opportunities and unlocking efficiency. Similarly, cloud-based analytics brings more flexibility and scalability to enterprise operations, allowing them to quickly and easily ramp up or scale down in tune with business needs and market conditions. This makes them more agile and responsive, reducing the chances of opportunity loss. In a way, the fact that this endorsement is likely to be based on the possibility of generating more business opportunities rather than just saving cost may mean it’s likely to be more wide-ranging and sustained. #CloudAnalytics #Cloud #DataAnalytics
