Congratulations to Amber, our amazing Office Manager! 🎉 Amber has been a dedicated member of the Creekside team for 6 years. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude are infectious, making our office a brighter place every day. Thank you, Amber, for all your hard work and dedication! 👏👏 Let’s learn a little bit more about Amber… Q: How many years in the industry? A: I have been working in the world of construction for almost 6 years. Q: What do you like/enjoy about the field? A: I like the teamwork and the fact that no 2 days are ever the same. Q: What is one of your favorite things to do on your weekends/ day off? A: I can’t choose just one. I love to be creative and active on my days off. It is also a great way to spend time with my friends and family. Some of my favorite activities are; Improv, pickle ball, dancing, ping pong, bike riding and escape rooms. Q:If you had a super power, what would it be? A: This is an easy one, teleportation. I would love to be able to travel to any destination in the blink of an eye. Q: What’s your guilty pleasure song? A: “Simply the Best” by Tina Turner. I blame Schitt’s Creek for that. Q: What is the worst fashion decision you ever made? Do you have pictures? A: I had a pretty unfortunate perm in elementary school. To this day I remember looking in the mirror and thinking that I looked exactly like Hulk Hogan…and that was definitely NOT what I was going for. For that reason there aren’t many photos of me from that time period. Nicky Schmidt highlights some important points to consider with regards to the troubles plaguing Table Mountain National Park, indeed a cash cow under SANParks' management. Ultimately, rules need to be enforced and resources need to be dispensed to enforce the rules. From our perspective, what role do non-state players play in their influence and use of the Park. Our experience of engaging with stakeholders has been challenging to say the least, with each interest group safely guarding their "turf" and being apprehensive to use tools available to solve issues, or at the very least engaging on what options are possible for identifying problems and improving safety on the mountain. On Monday Natalya Garrod (Owner and Principal Planner of Sumac EP) had the pleasure of attending the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Caldwell First Nation and Parks Canada at Point Pelee National Park. The MOU speaks to Caldwell's future role in the proposed National Ojibway Urban Park in Windsor & LaSalle in Southwestern Ontario. This was a very exciting day for Caldwell as they have spent the last year and a half working towards an MOU that establishes a strong relationship with Parks Canada and one that enables the nation to nation relationship build on the principles of mutual respect, shared decision-making, and recognition of Caldwell First Nation's inherent jurisdiction and authority. https://lnkd.in/ezvxrttJ Every word was carefully considered and reconsidered. It was not always a smooth process but when people came together to the table with the right intentions that is where progress was made. The key lessons Natalya learned throughout the process: 1. Interpersonal relationships move things along much faster than any tactic. 2. Set realistic expectations for what can be achieved. Small starts get the ball moving. 3. Show up to the table in person and share a meal. This allows for fulsome conversations that can't be had over an email. This is where true understanding occurs. 4. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. The strong spirit of Caldwell First Nation is what got them to this point in the process and they have so much more they are going to achieve.
