Tampa Calling | Investigating the Homeless Crisis in Tampa - Part 2 by Adam Scull https://lnkd.in/eW87WvtR The homeless situation within Tampa is alarming, with a figure of 57 individuals per 10,000 residents, surpassing the rest of the St. Petersburg metropolitan region. Approximately 16,000 individuals in Tampa are homeless, with a significant part being children. The numbers highlight the pressing and intricate homelessness crisis in Tampa, emphasizing the necessity for holistic solutions. The under-reporting contributes to the complexity, suggesting that the accurate figures could be larger than what is documented. It is especially worrisome to see the sharp increase in homelessness among older adults and families with children, considering their vulnerability in society. Under-reporting exacerbated the complexity of addressing homelessness, impeding effective interventions. Intensifying efforts to find and aid homeless individuals and families in Tampa is underscored by the under-reported figures.

This November we are recognizing #HomelessnessAwarenessMonth, by sharing important statistics that reflect the local homelessness crisis here in our own community. In Dutchess County, 1,276 households and 1,622 individuals sought support, facing an average of 240 days of homelessness. This means that for more than half of the a year, individuals and families will grapple with the harsh realities of life without a stable home. These statistics remind us of the urgent need for action. It's not just about raising awareness; it's about working to create real, lasting change. Hudson River Housing works everyday providing shelter, housing services, and affordable housing solutions for housing insecure members of our community. Together, we can help shorten the duration of homelessness and make a lasting impact in the lives of those in need. Join us this Homeless Awareness Month in advocating for change. Let's ensure that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home, not just for a few months, but for a lifetime.

2024 Point-in-Time Count (PIT) is underway and Volunteers are needed!!! What is the Point-in-Time Count? The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January. HUD requires that Continuums of Care conduct an annual count of people experiencing homelessness who are sheltered in emergency shelter, transitional housing, and Safe Havens on a single night. Continuums of Care also must conduct a count of unsheltered people experiencing homelessness. Each count is planned, coordinated, and carried out locally. Why does the Point-in-Time Count matter? The annual PIT count helps CoCs determine the extent of homelessness in the community and determine unmet need. *PIT counts help communities: Monitor trends in homelessness locally Identify unmet needs and characteristics of those experiencing homelessness Identify the need for new programs and services or re-distribution of programs and services Raise awareness about homelessness Measure if homelessness is being ended in a CoC When is training? Training will be provided online this year. All volunteers will be sent a link to the training video on January 22. Please note that those who are new volunteers will be paired with someone who has participated before This will help with any questions you have. Do you want to volunteer for the Unsheltered Count? Register Here: https://lnkd.in/ei5Gf-pE *The training video will be sent to the email address provided when you signed up. #lowcountrychws #chws #answerthecall #communityhealthworkers #communityengagement #communityimpact #communityhealth #communityfirst #communitybuilding

HOMELESS ENGAGEMENT LIFT PARTNERSHIP When it comes to homelessness, Arizona, Maricopa County, and Phoenix have a serious problem. There are about 29,000 homeless people in Arizona — one in every 227 Arizonans. And an estimated 61% of them are in Maricopa County. In addition, approximately 2,500 people are considered “unsheltered,” living on the streets. Most are single adults, and 79% of them are men. The number of homeless people in families is on the rise throughout Arizona, with many victims of domestic violence. According to DES, 4,346 adults and 4,095 children received help from domestic violence service providers. Isn’t it time we stop to think about what we can do to help reduce the homeless population in our community? With very little time and effort, each and every one of us can significantly improve the lives of the homeless. With a little extra effort, we can HELP reduce the number of Homeless in our community.

Cloudburst’s Suzanne Marcus, Gender-Based Violence and Housing Specialist, and Ashley M., Technical Assistance Provider, joined forces this week to stand in solidarity with Health Care for the Homeless, National Health Care for the Homeless Council, National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), National Coalition for the Homeless, National Alliance to End Homelessness, and others while the Supreme Court heard opening arguments in Johnson v. Grants Pass—a case that could allow cities to criminalize unhoused people for sleeping on the streets. Homelessness has been on the rise since 2017, experiencing an overall increase of six percent. Unsheltered homelessness is also trending upwards impacting most racial, ethnic, and gender subgroups.* Resources: To learn more about Cloudburst’s work to eliminate homelessness: https://lnkd.in/gzyuXqfi To learn more about Johnson v.
