Great week in Seoul for CISAC General Assembly, and hosted magnificently by our sister society KOMCA, celebrating its 60th birthday. Discussion focus? AI, the value and threat to creative industries - economically and culturally. Without creative content you have no AI learning or derivative GenAI services. Content is the key ingredient. It’s past time to be transparent about ingested content, getting consent and compensating rights holders. Forecasts relating to global AI wealth generation are mind blowing - investors and shareholders are tripping over themselves to get in on the action. It might be prudent, good corporate governance, global citizenship and business for AI related investors to ask about copyright and forecast the liability of not factoring in the cost. How about tech and content industries look to the opportunity of a step change relationship. How about leaning into the discussion and business negotiations with the clear objective of a win for creators, creative and tech industries alike. We should be bold in our aspiration to make AI work for humanity. The creative, cultural and business opportunities could be enormous. The time to talk about creators and creative industries being part of the commercial opportunity is now.

hey dean, good piece, thanks for sharing The noise in the @harvest media ecosystem is steadily getting louder. Over the past 3 years we've integrated with 3 AI apps offering discovery, search similar and metadata generation for our production music clients. The services produce good results (depending on whose listening) for surfacing content within large aggregator applications and offer efficiency around metadata creation, its not hard to imagine its just a matter time before the generative piece arrives. we've had requests for non-training clauses in our agreements(tick), emails asking about rumours that we are training on our client labels without permission, with this latter point being impossible because we dont offer AI services directly. There are also anecdotes abounding with publisher clients being approached by AI generative companies offering advances and %trails for sync, but not with ownership of the generated works. Sound like a good short term cash deal to me shifting the true value to the tech provider! Id be positing, at least in my world a generative piece that produces a fantastic product offering creative output and efficiency, but where our clients maintain 100% ownership of the derived work.

Fully agree , why not make it diferently this time around and respect creators from day one or already day two ..
