It is a privilege to work with incredible leaders and it is an absolute joy when you can be in a room full of them. Huge thanks to Stephanie Rich, Mary Grove, and Brett Brohl of Bread and Butter Ventures for inviting me to lead a discussion on "Planning for Hard." Founding and leading a fast-growing company is one of the hardest things you can do; forcing a construct like "work-life balance" on yourself can set up cycles of disappointment and expectations that just cannot be met. Instead, if we "plan for hard" and accept that yes, it will be a lot, and yes it will be a roller coaster - we can then explore/invest in the infrastructure (personal and professional) to bring out the best version of yourself (as a leader, a partner, and a human).

Challenging traditional VC fund structures. Hunter/ Satya have been pioneering a new way of investing in early stage startups. Love that they have built a new model that works for them (and founders). Playing the game in their own way.

It's okay if your mum was your first user. It's okay if your best friend was your second. It's okay if you convinced your wife to be your 3rd. There's only one issue. They do not scale. There's only one more parent a startup founder can onboard. So how do you grow from there? Hiring your dog as the VP of Barketing? Enlisting your cat as the Chief Purring Officer? Observations from a young founder: Genuine confidence in your product to deliver is the unsung hero of closing a successful pitch. Sounds so obvious, yet my feeling is this is so often the missing ingredient amongst Founders, especially in the early days. 12 months ago, Hugo and I were pouring our hearts into pitches of a previous product iteration POCKLA and losing so many interested parties right at the final hurdle. 12 months later, sure our pitching skills may have sharpened up a little, but I don’t think any amount of practice makes up for genuine conviction in what you are pitching, and this shines through to anybody on the receiving end. #foundersobservations #startuplife
