Recently, I also attended the REITs conference, organized by Taiwan Council of Shopping Center and Commercial Real Estate, Capital Market Committee. The council chairman Jeff Tsai and all speakers highlighted the challenges of the past and now, especially the openness of government policy. The committee director Michael Liao who was also the moderator of the conference. He works in the banking system withhold NYU real estate academics degree. His professions added into the lively discussion during Q&A time. As Jeff concluded during the panel discussion, the maturity of REITs will provide the more professional property management of commercial real estate including retail complexes, such as in Singapore and Japan markets. I learned many practices and studies at this conference. Thank you, Jeff. Thank you, Michael - I'm impressed. #Taiwan #CommercialRealEstate #REITs #PrivateEquityFund

TBP introduces its Reimagined City as part of its revolutionary global trade ecosystem. This ecosystem will create a neutral trading environment driven by a dynamic maritime route system and the establishment of neutral trade corridors, ports, and city infrastructure. The new ecosystem will allow global traders and service providers to operate freely on a common trade system within the corridor worldwide and outside any state trade regulations. In response to the ongoing trend of businesses downsizing and leaving urban areas, resulting in the decline of financial districts and downtowns threatening the $4.5 trillion office market sector globally, TBP aims to breathe new life into cities. We plan to transform them into TBP Neutral Multi-Commodities Trade Cities, offering temporary co-working spaces, trade outlets & exhibitions and residential spaces for millions of global traders and service providers coming to the city to trade or offer services. This initiative will restore vital business activity to cities and reinvigorate international trade worldwide. https://lnkd.in/eUpFMWDp #TBP #TBPworldvisionproject #reimaginedcity #trade #neutraltradecity #businessmobility #worldtradeorganisation #wto #internationaltrade #sustainablecity #businessdistricts #urbandoomloop #officespace #hybridworking

Avoid Dead Ends... North Point MTR station is on the Island Line, which connects the Eastern and Western points of Hong Kong Island in much the same way that Hong Kong connects East and West. For the city itself, this connector role was in evidence in the last couple of weeks through multiple events: the #HongKongCulturalSummit, #ArtBasel and #ArtCentral and of course the #HongKongSevens to name just a few. At DZ BANK AG's Hong Kong Branch we were proud once again to host the #DayonGermany that brought together German issuers like KfW, Rentenbank and #DeutscheFinanzagentur with a diverse group of Hong Kong financial institutions. All of these events have one thing in common - they connected people from various places with diverse interests to exchange ideas, pursue common interests and (very rarely, I'm sure) share a drink or two. And all of these events took place in #HongKong. So let's make sure we avoid dead ends and cherish a city that thrives on exchange, diverse viewpoints and openness to the world.

Wondering what our European summer is up to? Expect the EU FSR to heat things up: as intrepid MLex reporter Tono Gil Folgado (with Nicholas Hirst) deduces, deal-making may be in for a further chill with Finnish company Purmo Group (heating and cooling equipment) up for bids under the long shadow of the FSR. See (pay-walled) here: https://lnkd.in/eVZNZG99 What are Purmo's choices? Stick to the initial bid from U.S.-based private equity firm Apollo Global Management, Inc., pursuing a majority stake in the company with Finnish family-owned holding company Rettig Ltd as the minority owner? Read about it here: https://lnkd.in/ek4Mfd-n Or, opt for today’s bid, by Chinese home appliances giant Haier, ready to pick up all of Purmo’s shares at a premium of 22.7% over the Apollo/Rettig offering. Read all about it here: https://lnkd.in/erS3wFzy Haier, of course, is Chinese (is or is not the FSR really all about countering Chinese government-sponsored binge shopping in Europe?) (spoiler: no) and already entangled in a pending FSR review re its acquisition of Carrier’s commercial refrigeration business. Apollo is a U.S.- based private equity – whether that is any better (also in light of the lower-value offer) is a question best not to be asked of German socialist Franz Müntefering (him of the Heuschrecken, viz. locusts); rather, when considering which way to go, at least with the FSR in mind, Purmo will “simply” have to consider whether Haier and/or Apollo are using state subsidies to expand in Europe. Bit like Charis and Charybdis, Odysseus might muse, but certainly a first public taste of how the FSR may influence the choice between two takeover bids. Note the Purmo takeover follows the EU opening its first deal investigation under the FSR, assessing Emirates telecoms operator Etisalat’s (e&) plan to acquire large parts of rival PPF Telecom Group BV. Following my earlier LI post on that transaction, it has become apparent the probe questions the state guarantee from the UAE and loans from UAE-controlled banks help e& to bankroll that EUR2.2 deal, honing in on e&’s carve-out from the UAE’s bankruptcy laws and how that may have given the company a selective advantage in improving the terms of a deal-related loan. Selectivity is big no-no for EU State aid lawyers – it implies the state catered for something commercial (“normal”) folk don’t get. The point for Purmo being, the FSR sure needs to be taken very serious.. #competitionlaw #antitrust #fsr #subsidies #euregulations

This article highlights the resilience of Hong Kong's real estate market, despite challenges in sectors like office and retail. Recent end-user deals show confidence in quality assets despite market fluctuations. However, the limited representation of hotel and retail properties in major transactions, coupled with decreased industrial sector activity, suggests HK isn't out of the woods yet with more opportunisitic buys from 'motivated' sellers expected. Interest rate cuts - flagged by the US Federal Reserve for later this year - will offer some relief, however recent reports tend to indicate these will be later and less than originally expected when entering 2024. #HongKong #RealEstate #CRE #AssetInvestment
