Beyond proud to finally launch Tend Women’s Health Week I Te Wiki Hauora Wāhine, a project close to my heart for a while now. 💜 A year ago it struck me that NZ’s public health calendar lacked a dedicated space for women’s health. There are plenty of other very worthy promotional campaigns, but nothing just for our wāhine. I did some research and was staggered to find out many other countries have a Women’s Health Week and I just knew this had to change. At Tend Health Ltd we see the daily challenges faced by Kiwis in accessing healthcare. Health promotion and education is a big part of our proposition, and along with our in-clinic and phenomenal online medical care, is just another way we are delivering our service and making healthcare more accessible. As a working mum of two daughters, I know the customer well. I make all the healthcare decisions in our home. I am the first to book the children and my husband in for health checks and vaccinations. When it comes to myself… I am not so good. I am the one who gets sunburnt, making sure everyone else is lathered up. I am the one who needs 7 prods to get my cervical screening done and I'm the who takes a raft of “vitamins” in the hope that I will not get sick! I’m incredibly proud of our all-female health promotion team who’ve worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life - Jade Wang, Kim Littlejohn, and Bex Taylor-Haskel. When one of your rockstar team members (Jade) says it’s the best project she’s ever worked on, you know you’re onto something good. Our mission is to unite Aotearoa’s wāhine and put women’s health at the fore. We’ve created an online hub of health information, where personal stories are shared, and clinical knowledge is imparted. Our social media programme will make you laugh, cry, and hopefully take action. Get involved by following Tend Health Ltd and checking out www.womenshealthweek.nz You might just learn something new... and could win some money to spend on your health! None of this would have been possible without the support of one of the most inspirational female leaders in Aotearoa, my boss Cecilia Robinson, and the incredible backing of The Selwyn Foundation, Kiwibank, and My Food Bag who believed in our idea and supported our vision. This will become an annual event, creating a legacy for our future. I want my daughters to grow up in a country where women’s health is as important as men’s, where they aren’t afraid to seek help and where they prioritise their wellbeing. Two final things I want more women to know: 1. The NZ cervical screening programme has changed. Most women no longer need the dreaded speculum. The new HPV test is a quick self-swab. Please don’t delay this screening. It is so easy now! 2. Get an annual health check around your birthday. We spend money on our car WOF every year—our bodies deserve the same care. A simple check could save your life. Me aro koe ki te hā o Hineahuone Pay heed to the powerful essence of women

Dr. Younglove will be speaking for Midwest Business Group on Health at their upcoming Women's Health Forum! This event will be discussing the unique health care needs of women in the workforce and how to remedy disparities. Dr. Younglove will be weaving obesity into the conversation, as it has a significant impact on women's health issues (fertility, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, mammogram call-backs, etc.) and therefore further widens the gap in out-of-pocket and overall healthcare costs for women. Across all industries, women are over 40% of the workforce. In some sectors such as health care, women make up 75% or more of an organization’s employees. Despite this representation, women’s health care and health care benefits are more expensive and often more restrictive. Attend this ½-day educational forum to hear about the disparity in health care cost and access, and what you as an employer can do about it. This program is available both in-person and virtually. It is 2024, and women—who make up half of the human population—still do not receive equitable health care. Women’s health has historically been viewed through the narrow lens of reproductive health. As a result, there are large gaps in general health, wellbeing, and health policy that should be addressed to attain true equity in health, access, and care delivery. The concept of women’s holistic health appears to be emerging as a central aspect of health care delivery. By prioritizing and investing in women and health, life sciences and health care we have the opportunity to reverse the long-standing under-representation of women and help advance health equity. We at Flavum Health are working towards Health equity. Fit, fierce and fabulous is not just a tagline, its what we want every woman to feel so.

This week is being celebrated as Women’s Health Week - Te Wiki Hauora Wāhine. In June, the Government published the Government Policy Statement on Health 2024-2027 (GPS) which sets the direction for the health system and includes the Government’s priorities for populations with high health needs, including women. The GPS sets out a number of expectations that have a specific focus on improving women’s health, such as: o Increasing human papillomavirus (HPV) screening rates, with a focus on population groups with lower screening rates o Extending the breast cancer screening age to 74. o Expanding the choice of whānau-centred and holistic maternity and early years’ services. The GPS links to New Zealand’s first Women’s Health Strategy, which was published in July 2023. The Strategy sets the direction for health agencies to improve the health and wellbeing of women over the next 10 years.

As the 2024 election approaches, health policy is a key battleground between President Biden and former President Trump, with stark contrasts in their approaches. Biden has focused on expanding healthcare access and lowering costs. His administration empowered Medicare to negotiate drug prices, targeting some of the costliest medications, and aimed to cap out-of-pocket expenses for seniors. He's also pushed for broader health coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), resulting in significant enrollment increases. Biden's stance on reproductive rights includes efforts to protect abortion access and support in vitro fertilization treatments, contrasting sharply with recent Supreme Court rulings. Trump's health policies have typically emphasized deregulation and reduced federal spending. He promises to repeal and replace the ACA, a campaign goal that remains vague given his previous failures to propose a concrete alternative (KFF Health News). His "Right to Try" Act, intended to provide terminally ill patients access to experimental treatments, faced implementation hurdles as drug companies were hesitant to release unapproved medications. Trump's notable achievement, Operation Warp Speed, accelerated COVID-19 vaccine development, although it faces mixed support among his base. The divergent paths of Biden and Trump offer voters a clear choice on the future of healthcare in America. Biden aims to build on existing frameworks for greater coverage and cost reduction, while Trump advocates for more market-driven, less regulated healthcare solutions. Women’s contribution to healthcare constitutes nearly 5% of global GDP, but nearly half is unpaid and unrecognized. A major new Commission on women and health has found that women are contributing around $3 trillion to global health care, but nearly half of this (2.35% of global GDP) is unpaid and unrecognized. “Too often, women’s health is essentially equated to maternal and reproductive health. However, the evidence outlined by this Commission overturns this conventional interpretation, and we urge the global health community and policymakers worldwide to embrace a more holistic — and realistic — understanding of women and health. It’s time to acknowledge women’s comprehensive health needs throughout their lives, and their productive contributions to health care and society as a whole, as well as their similarly important roles as mothers and homemakers.” - Professor Ana Langer, head of the Women and Health Initiative at Harvard T. 🌟 Women's health is finally in the spotlight, but let's stay vigilant! 🌟 After centuries of neglect, women's health is gaining the attention it deserves. From the media highlighting the gender pain gap to the inclusion of women in scientific studies, progress is being made. However, not all attention is positive. Research led by Dr. Tessa Copp from the University of Sydney exposes how some companies exploit the women’s health advocacy movement for profit, promoting treatments that aren't always backed by evidence. From misleading marketing of egg-freezing and weight loss drugs to over-hyped menopause treatments, the risk of harm through overdiagnosis and inappropriate medicalisation is real. It's crucial to stay informed and cautious. Empowerment should come from evidence-based care, not from corporations' profit-driven motives. Let's advocate for genuine, effective healthcare solutions for women. 💪❤️ Read the full article from Tatler Asia here: https://lnkd.in/d6rf4z7s #WomensHealth #Healthcare #EvidenceBasedMedicine #MedicalEthics #WomensEmpowerment #HealthAdvocacy #Femvertising

🏛Yesterday, First Lady Jill Biden made an exciting announcement regarding the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research. ARPA-H (Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health) is set to launch its inaugural “Sprint for Women’s Health,” allocating $100 million over the next year to support groundbreaking research. This significant investment aims to spur innovation in addressing health issues affecting women, including debilitating migraines, menopause, cardiac diseases, and other healthcare conditions. 🌈I am optimistic that this will help reduce the incredible discrepancy in investment in women’s research and healthcare solutions vs. men and the number of females who are ignored, dismissed, or living with chronic pain. There is new hope for transformative advancements in medical research and care that will positively impact the lives of women dealing with chronic pain and various health conditions. https://lnkd.in/dwFfUcYx #JillBiden #WomensHealth #WomensHealthMatters #WomensHealthcare #Menopause #Femtech #MenopauseCareIsEssentialHealthCare #MenopauseSupport #MenopauseRelief #Menowar #AllisonLewin
