GenAI is core to everything we do at Off/Script. Every month, our studio generates over 300,000 AI product concepts for our users, while layering in thousands of data points from our manufacturing network. Soon, our model will capture millions of in-app user votes to influence rendering right at the time of image creation. As the tech’s capabilities and Off/Script continue to evolve alongside one another, here are some of our perspectives regarding how to best deal with the rapid pace of innovation in the space. 1) Hallucination-as-a-feature use cases will be adopted first: Use cases enriched by the probabilistic nature of GenAI computing such as creativity (multi-media generation), conversation (coding, customer support), and social (companions) will become mainstream before those where deterministic outputs are required, like health, security, finance, and legal. 2) A handful of players will dominate the foundational LLM layer: Compute, talent, and capital concentration will make it almost impossible for emerging players to compete with hyperscalers or a small cohort of well-funded start-ups on foundational model quality. 3) Cost won’t prohibit adoption: Whether from open source or API-first models where inference costs are abstracted away for end-users, access to affordable, cutting-edge GenAI capabilities will be accessible to all. 4) Emergent capabilities of foundational LLMs are still very much in their early innings: We’ve yet to see how deep general models will be able to go for verticalized use cases. It is our perspective that for any use case falling in the 0-98% accuracy grid (broadly all of the consumer market), there is no need to build any form of proprietary model from scratch. 5) Security, workflows integration, and (truly) proprietary data will be the 3 core differentiators for start-ups across both consumer and enterprise. There are ways to build lasting defensibility on top of an open technology layer by incorporating fine-tuning techniques using proprietary data and unique worklflow capabilities leveraging one's core product features. Combining all the above means that knowing where foundational models’ capabilities end and where yours as a company begin is key to making proper resource allocation decisions. We’ve yet to see how far base LLMs can go, and we know they’ll become more affordable over time. In the case of Off/Script, workflow integration and proprietary data capture are our core focus as we continue investing in our ML capabilities. Fun times to be building 😊
