Originally an environmental monitoring, safety and testing expert, Kelly pivoted to microbiology and now assists clients with compendium, release, and sterility testing, disinfectant qualifications, microbial limits testing, endotoxin testing, mycoplasma, and daily water testing. During her interview, Kelly shared, "We have to be very observant with the products that we test. Our job is to ensure we avoid contamination or false positives — both are costly and impact timelines. Every test is treated as if the future of the molecule depends on it." LOOK 👀 !! USP - NF/PF 50(1) commenting open till 31-Mar- 2024 〈1071〉 Rapid Microbial Tests for Release of Sterile Short-Life Products: A Risk-Based Approach. This proposed update is based on the version of the chapter official as of December 1, 2019. The #Microbiology Expert Committee proposes the following revisions: Change the title to “Rapid Microbiological Methods for the Detection of Contamination in Short-Life Products—A Risk-Based Approach”. Redefine the application of #rapid #microbiologicalmethods to #shortlifeproducts. Introduce a calculation to evaluate the probability of #contamination and define an adequate sample volume. Remove the #limitofdetection as the critical operation parameter to be used in determining a #riskbasedmicrobiologicalmethod. Provide more guidance on the #validation and #suitabilitytesting of the rapid microbiological method. Update the example technologies to align with the #USP Microbiology Expert Committee evaluation: #ATPbioluminescence, #nucleicacidamplification, #respiration, and #solidphasecytometry. Additionally, minor editorial changes have been made to update the chapter to current USP style. The companion chapters Respiration-Based Microbiological Methods for the Detection of Contamination in Short-Life Products 〈72〉 and ATP Bioluminescence-Based Microbiological Methods for the Detection of Contamination in Short-Life Products 〈73〉 also appear in this issue of PF. Other monographs and/or chapters that both reference the General Chapter under revision, require revision to keep references to the General Chapter accurate. Other monographs and/or chapters may also be listed, even where the reference to the General Chapter remains unchanged, as additional notice to stakeholders where there is believed to be potential for the change in the general chapter itself to affect pass-fail determinations for particular monograph articles.
