"Reinvention" is the watchword of the labor market, including in the tech sector that's driving the need for reskilling. "Learn to code" became "learn to prompt" which is morphing toward something we can't quite see yet. We need a new tech workforce playbook. This article is interesting in what it tries pondering the fear of loosing jobs to AI against the more optimistic view of its impact. The problem for me is that asserting something like "Not everyone will lose their jobs, but we may be doing very different tasks, roles, and responsibilities in the future. There's nothing to fear, as long as we're okay with that change and we keep adapting along the way." or "This isn't something to be afraid of," she told ZDNET. "The only thing we should be afraid of is if we continue to be the person who says, 'Oh, I don't need it. It's not going to impact me.' Those are the people whose jobs will be impacted negatively." sounds to me like the previous major impacts of technology on jobs. What always makes me nervous is that the main drive for adopting technology is the seek for financial gains. I am OK with this, if one company doesn't try increasing benefits others will do it anyway and this company will finally disappear. The problem comes from the fact that once the financial gains are ensured, those being the "collateral damage" of these gains become the problem of somebody else: collectivity, communities, provinces, states, national governments. Finally this pushes democracies to end up electing Far Right or populist parties to govern our countries and we will result loosing on economical and social and individual freedom aspects. https://lnkd.in/eTmPiQrG

Ethical and transparent AI deployment includes carefully considering its impact on the workforce. AI's uncharted nature means organizations are writing a playbook from scratch, and large companies with ambitious AI initiatives set a precedent the entire business world will eventually follow. What we do right now will largely shape our relationship with AI going forward. I'd rather that precedent be built on comprehensive strategies for up-skilling and transitioning employees, helping them adapt to new technology instead of leaving them behind. #Upskilling #AI #Transition #Workforce
