Forecast for 2033 shows us facing 20,700 job openings in BC’s ICI sector, with retirements and expansion creating new opportunities. However, an alarming 6,600 roles may remain unfilled due to existing workforce shortages. Improvement is ongoing, but we can do more.
At A Few Good Lads, we're poised to tackle this challenge head-on. Our recruitment strategies and supportive community initiatives are crafted to attract and retain the skilled workers from outside Canada necessary to fill these gaps. By fostering a welcoming and inclusive workplace culture, we help mitigate the issues that led 27% of the industry’s workforce to switch jobs last year.

In the residential construction industry, we often see a lack of processes, especially when it comes to hiring. Many small businesses are just trying to build great products, and I commend them for that. But without a process in place, you're living dangerously and are wildly exposed. You end up with a flip-a-coin hiring process, where you have multiple candidates but no effective way to evaluate them. 🎲
That's where we come in. At Adams Limitless, we prioritize the candidate experience. We ensure that anyone who interacts with your company, whether they're hired or not, has a positive experience. We're that buffer when you're too busy to handle the hiring process. We protect the candidate experience and follow a dedicated process that we ensure you follow every step of the way. This way, you can be confident that you're bringing the right person into your company. 🎯
So, let's stop living dangerously. Let's bring structure and success to your hiring process.

546,000 to 727,000 unfilled jobs. This isn’t new to people in construction, but it's getting a lot worse. Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) found that 59% of its members classified the labor shortage as one of the most pressing concerns impacting their businesses. How bad is it, what are the causes, and how can we keep our industry driving American growth? Trunk Tools’ own Dr. Sarah Buchner sat with CONEXPO-CON/AGG to explore the misconceptions hurting construction’s ability to recruit new entrants to the workforce. “There has been a big push for decades for people to go to college, and once someone has a college degree, they tend to see working on a construction site as going backward in their career.” Learn more in the comments:
Really mixed feelings about this. Whilst Barratt and Redrow are no doubt some of the best - if not the best - volume housebuilders around, potential job losses of c. 800 employees along with nine office closures feels borderline criminal.
Naturally, there's hope that this joint behemoth of housing can build some astronomical numbers, however from a socio-economic perspective do the benefits really outweigh the risks? Or is this ultimately a deal for the shareholders?
We (Strata) can't help everyone in housing but if you're currently working in a Technical/Design capacity, feel at risk, and are keen to explore a role in Civil or Structural Engineering, then this is our skillset and we can help you find your next role.

"Nest Builders" at work:
"Nest builders" are the employees who creates a complicated system that only he/she knows or understands. They are the only one who knows how it all works, they become indispensable and it's hard to get certain tasks done without them.
Look out for the "Nest builders" in your team and company, and either prune away at their nest, or insist that a system is set up which everyone understands.

My house is undergoing a few renovations.
Yes, winter is a great time to do this.
However, my builders are doing a phenomenal job.
They give me regular updates on what they are doing and why.
I keep them in sausage rolls .
Over the years I've had some appalling experiences with tradespeople.
( And I have heard some appalling stories about shonky recruitment consultants)
Ultimately though ,it comes down to trust, doesn't it ?
They are the experts.
So, when they show me my ceiling that is, like most things after 80 years, slightly skew whiff, I trust their judgement.
They are doing a great job. I enjoy working with them. I trust them.
They are the experts.
So, when I get off the phone from a client who is still laughing after receiving a frank reminder on what he needs to be doing process wise, and he says :
"Thanks mate. This is why we use you. You are the expert."
I wonder if he's going to bring me a sausage roll for my hard work.....
