3 important reminders from our restaurant soft opening this weekend. 👇🏼 1) People are everything -> Multiple times there were opportunities to go above and beyond for our team. We nailed some and missed some. 2) You’re never as prepared as you think you are -> Even though we were ready, there are still 3 pages of notes. At some point you have to take the leap. 3) You can’t please everyone -> Some people will love what you do, and some won’t. Listen to the feedback and iterate. I am more concerned about the restaurant industry now than during the pandemic. I continue to hear stories of people walking away from the industry feeling more burned out and pissed off than ever. I continue to have experiences in restaurants that are disengaging and witness servers and bartenders struggling with the amount of work that is asked of them. I am seeing these struggles in independent restaurants across the country. The missing piece is leadership. We need leaders who are working the floor, working shoulder to shoulder with the teams and recognizing things are going wrong and curious about how to make it right. There has been no better time than now for owners and managers to set crystal clear expectations for new and current employees. Development needs to be a daily focus in addition to gratitude and operators need to be curious about how to create space for themselves to work on their businesses.
