Grads want to join a firm that genuinely cares about their employees and values their experience and growth   𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒍 – the majority of people in recruitment joined for the money. You can work hard and earn well. Trainees want to know that they are joining somewhere they can progress and see the realistic earning potential 5 years down the line   𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬…   𝑭𝒍𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 – recruiters with 3+ years in the industry are leaving firms where you are in the office 5 days a week and can’t work around your life schedule. They want the ability to WFH 1 or 2 days a week, and make up their hours if needed   𝑩𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 – those who do well in recruitment quickly realise whether they are being rewarded well or not. If you have large thresholds and impossible scaling targets, people will move on to better paying roles elsewhere   𝑶𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 – a lot of people who are considering their options are doing so because they have simply become bored of the lack of opportunity at their current firms. One thing I love about being a recruiter is talking to people. Last week I caught up with a technology professional I placed 15 years ago. What stood out about this particular catch-up was this individual's career journey. Listening to how their career had progressed, was a testament to the power of internal mobility. Early in their career, I placed this individual at a well-known financial services firm, and ever since they have climbed the ranks with the same employer through diverse roles, both locally and internationally. Why? The firm's deep commitment to great onboarding and internal mobility, constantly presenting them with new challenges and growth opportunities. It was rewarding to hear such a great personal success story; but more than that, it's a blueprint for how organisations can retain top talent, nurture strong internal brand ambassadors, and safeguard their intellectual property. So many employers overlook internal mobility in their talent attraction strategy. By doing so, they miss out on unlocking the full potential of their workforce.
