I had the privilege of volunteering at Upper Room with Dunsin Oyekan at OAU, Ile-Ife. At the beginning of the program, I was given a black nylon bag and asked to pick up trash after the program. I collected the bag, without much thought ready to serve.
But after the event ended, I totally forgot about my task until the lady who handed me the bag asked, “Where’s the trash you collected?” I told her I hadn’t seen any litter on the crusade ground. And honestly, I hadn’t noticed a single piece of trash.
She then told me to bring out the nylon bag to take another look.
As soon as I pulled out the bag and started looking AROUND FOR TRASH, suddenly, I saw trash everywhere. It felt like my eyes had just opened. How did I miss it before?
This little moment taught me a huge lesson about FOCUS. What we don’t focus on, we simply don’t see. It’s a natural law.
I often don’t notice the bad in people until someone else points it out because I’m not focusing on it.
Focus is a powerful thing.
It can shape your reality in both positive and negative ways.
Make it a habit to focus on the good stuff, and you’ll start seeing more of it everywhere you look.
P.S: The trash bag became full in few minutes 🤣🤣🤪
