As BMW Group confirms that first of its existing plants to go all-electric, with Plant Munich set to end ICE/Hybrid production by the end of 2027, it was great to understand more from the leadership team what the manufacturing plan and changes really look like for the Neue Klasse. An EV-based platform provides opportunities to reduce cost, complexity, emissions and variation, even whilst making complicated changes and investments. And at Munich, that has meant building or rebuilding many parts of the plant, especially in body, assembly and logistics, and significantly more digitalisation, from dynamic automation, virtual factory planning to large language models in production planning. Plant Director Peter Weber said that the company was establishing a new production system that would stand for decades. Board member for production Milan Nedeljković said that the efficiency levels for Munich would be comparable to those at BMW's new plant in Hungary. But flexibility will also be key, especially as no one knows exactly how global EV demand will develop. Watch out for plenty more flexible lines across BMW's network, and a willingness to adapt as necessary.

BMW's transformation of its Plant Munich will result in full #electrification of the #factory by 2027, with the revamp of the plant in full force for the Neue Klasse to roll off the lines in 2026. To realise #efficiency, #flexibility and #sustainability targets, BMW Groupis revamping #body, #assembly and #logistics in Munich, whilst ramping up #digitalisation. The result will be a new production that defines the plant and BMW manufacturing for a generation, according to senior leaders in production. And whilst serial production is still a few years away, the work on taking full advantage of the manufacturing benefits of a full EV platform have long been underway, with close collaboration across #design, #engineering and #manufacturingengineering and plant teams.
