Nonprofit Konnect 2024, convening this October in Kenya, examines the urgent need for collaborative solutions in a world grappling with interconnected problems like climate change, poverty, and public health crises. This summit serves as a pivotal moment to advance the Public-Nonprofit Partnership (PNPP) model and emphasize the necessity of a unified approach towards achieving the objectives outlined in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), Kenya’s Medium-Term Plan (MTP) for 2023-2027, AU Agenda 2063, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

As 2023 comes to a close, we are celebrating the transformation of more than 800,000 lives thanks to BOMA's relentless work to end extreme poverty in Africa's drylands. This achievement is more than just the numbers; it is a testament of the impact of BOMA’s innovative programs that have not only transformed livelihoods, but have also increased food security, reduced child malnutrition, enhanced climate resilience and empowered our participants to launch green businesses while training them in Natural Resource Management. As we stand on the cusp of a new year, BOMA remains fortified in its mission, motivated by the successes of 2023 and ready to make even greater strides in 2024 and beyond. The Harsh Reality in the Eastern Cape 🚨 🌍 The Rainbow Nation is facing a sobering truth: In the Eastern Cape, thousands of children are succumbing to malnutrition, a basic constitutional right denied. Unemployment and poverty are on the rise, exacerbating the hunger crisis. 😔 💔 In just three years, a heartbreaking reality unfolds: Thousands of children lost to malnutrition, families denied their basic rights, and a community struggling to survive. In the OR Tambo district alone, 21 innocent lives were lost in a few short months. People endure weeks without food, and children are slowly fading away due to malnutrition. The majority of clinics lack the resources to treat this crisis, leaving families helpless. 📉 Nationally, 15,000 children have been hospitalized for severe malnutrition. Shockingly, in South Africa, 13 million children are supported by child support grants of R510, while the basic poverty line sits at R1058. Food prices have skyrocketed by 8% annually, spelling even more severe consequences for our people. 💸 During the COVID crisis, the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development received R100,000,000 for urgent food relief, but R67,000,000 was returned, unable to be spent on welfare or developmental programs. Imagine the impact the UrbanFarm Africa Hydro Coop project could have had with this lost opportunity: 🌱 Jobs Created for Women: 5,000 🌐 Social Impact: 45,000 People 💼 Economic Impact in 3 Years: R400,000,000 🐓 Chickens for Meat Produced: 6,400,000 🥦 Vegetables: 17,000,000 🤝 Now more than ever, we must unite to address this crisis. Our people are suffering, and our children are dying. The promise of Democracy seems distant as South Africa stands on the brink of collapse. Strategizing to End Child Hunger Our World Vision Africa leadership team, is currently attending the World Vision Africa Regional Governance Forum in Ethiopia. This forum brings together the World Vision International Board, National Boards, and Advisory Councils to strategize on overcoming challenges impacting Africa and creating lasting change for children. The theme for the forum is the #ENOUGH campaign, aimed at ending child hunger across Africa. In the face of crisis that Africa face, it’s the children who suffer the most. Starving children need our immediate attention and support. By incorporating resilience-building interventions into funding for all emergency responses, we can prevent future hunger crises and ensure every child has enough. Let's work together to protect the most vulnerable and ensure no child goes hungry.
