Taking Action on Microfibers. Mandating the use of advanced filtration systems in wastewater treatment facilities would be the most effective way to significantly lower microfiber pollution in the oceans. These systems can significantly mitigate one of the primary sources of microfiber pollution by capturing microfibers from domestic laundry before they enter waterways. This measure would require collaboration between appliance manufacturers, wastewater treatment facilities, policymakers, and consumers, but given this technology is already in development and shows very promising results, it stands as a practical and impactful solution. This action needs to be driven. The advocacy of  Plastic Oceans Australasia and similar organisations are instrumental in moving the dial. Textile Recyclers Australia support these initiatives and look to our research & development to contribute towards these efforts. #plasticoceansaustralasia #fashion #sustainability #esg #microfibers #retail #innovation #polyester Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water Sustainability Victoria NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA)
