Ever heard of survivorship bias?
It's a bias that can lead to wrong conclusions.
During World War II, the U.S. military wanted to improve the armor on their planes...
They studied the planes that came back from battle and saw where the bullet holes were...
They thought, "Let's add more armor to the areas with the most bullet holes"...
But they were only looking at the planes that survived...
They ignored the planes that didn't make it back...
Those planes probably had bullet holes in different areas...
So, the military realized they needed to protect the areas where the planes that didn't return were hit...
This is an example of survivorship bias leading to wrong conclusions.
