Understanding traveler payment preferences: Insights from an IATA survey. In 2023, IATA conducted a survey of 800 travelers across 200 countries to gain insights into traveler preferences, a subset of which had a focus on airline payments. These insights give an understanding, from the traveler’s point of view, as to why payments are important for airlines to monitor as a KPI. The key insights pertain to: • The primary factor influencing payment method choices for travelers • Share of travelers satisfied with the payment experience currently • How often do payment issues cause travelers to skip out on purchasing ancillaries • The preferred methods of payments • Regional prevalence of digital wallets From these findings, it's evident that: • Travelers want convenient and secure use of their preferred payment methods. It is essential to provide the preferred payment method and ensure a quick and easy payment process • There is no universal solution in terms of payment methods. Every market has a different set of preferences • Non-availability of the preferred payment method or issues in the payment process will lead to a loss of revenue
