Sr. Recruiter - I build the teams that build the satellites. Recruiting Truth Teller & Mythbuster. Somehow, LinkedIn Top Voice 2022
Fine I'll admit it. I've got a lot going on outside of work and I'm tired. When I get tired, I get cranky. So yes my content this week might seem crabbier than usual because... well, see above 🤣 I switched up my topic this week after marinating on an interesting post here on LinkedIn... we're going to talk about ENTRY LEVEL HIRING. As the mom of young adults venturing out into the working world, I am grateful to the retail managers who have offered my kiddos opportunities and their patience as my babies learn how to navigate the working world. The barrier to entry for these kinds of roles should be MINIMAL. That should NOT mean we make offers based on who made us laugh, or was the most charismatic. If THAT'S the "requirement" for entry level roles, my neurodiverse kiddos are in trouble. THAT also makes me cranky. Now let me clarify - I get that providing great customer service might be a key skills for an entry level retail role, as an example. HMs can and should vet for that capability, and I am ok with my kid NOT landing roles like that (which she would hate anyway). But guess what? She's currently a cashier at a well known grocery store, and she does an amazing job without being over the top friendly or outgoing. She rings people up, manages their transactions quickly and efficiently, and let's people go on about their day. She got the job because she illustrated she can perform that basic function - not because she made the interviewer giggle. Sigh. Argue with me in the comments if you must. #Recruiting #EntryLevelJobs https://lnkd.in/gJeDtsqX

Amy Miller Nails it AGAIN! I know many young adults that want a job and want to contribute yet some put up so many barriers in the hiring process. WHY?! Then you ask your teams why can't we find people who want to work? Why the labor shortage? etc Think about "back in the day" you could walk into a store and ask if they are hiring, meet with the manager and get hired. Nowadays, did you apply online? Did you take the assessment? I will look at it and get back to you! While they are standing there talking to you! #hiring #retailjobs #ceo #ceos #recruitment

Summer Time Interviewing Tip! Hiring companies totally understand that you need to use that PTO and enjoy some time off, but what does that mean for your job search? Even though the hiring process tends to take longer during the summer, with the competitive hiring landscape, you don't want to be the roadblock preventing you from moving forward. To make sure you don't fall behind, create an "out-of-office" for your personal email so that hiring companies know that you're interested but unavailable. If possible check your email mid-week and end-of-week to make sure you aren't missing any communications. Let your points of contacts you are interviewing with know that you might be unavailable while you are away in advance. Finally, enjoy that vacation and wear sunscreen!!

A common term in the business world is "quiet quitting." We want to introduce the concept of "quiet hiring." This practice emphasizes developing internal talent to fill open positions instead of recruiting external candidates. To kick-start this initiative, consider implementing training and development programs. Look for programs that foster technical skills and emphasize the importance of soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. A holistic approach is essential in a dynamic work landscape. #QuietHiring #FutureOfWork #TalentDevelopment #RetentionMatters #EmployeeEngagement #CostEffective #ProductivityBoost
