For this President’s Day, I was reflecting on impact and legacy. I want you to imagine YOU died. It’s now YOUR funeral. Picture it. The people you know sitting to hear those closest talk about your life. What will those coming up say about YOU? What was YOUR Impact, Your Legacy, and how you Lived your LIfe? We do it for Presidents. Let’s do it for ourselves now. Listen as I talk about these three areas. Then I have a challenge for you that may change how you go about your life this week, and maybe just maybe, for much longer. So that how you live is also how you want to be remembered. The word for Memorial day is “Sacrifice.” It's the idea that we give away something precious—the best we have—to show our pure intentions or to help others. So, here’s a question for you... What have you sacrificed? Have you given away your happiness? Have you sacrificed your creativity for comfort and security? Have you sacrificed your dreams to support yourself and your family? Or traded your smile for a life of struggle? Did you become reasonable and responsible because you became a parent? Of course we sacrifice for our children, but we're not supposed to give away our lives or stow our dreams— that's serving no one. We can’t sacrifice our selves. Sometimes sacrifice seems almost selfish, like taking care of your health so you can take care of others. Or becoming your best so you can provide and support from that heightened position. Or to live out your truth so that you can give from your abundance and not to create poverty or lack. It can mean making yourself happy first, so you can be a guide and an example to everyone around you. If you are looking for things to sacrifice try your frustration and your stuck-ness. Sacrifice your regrets. These are the things to give away, get rid of and burn in the BBQ🔥. Everything you want is still inside of you. It's never too late to get it all back. When you're willing to sacrifice in order to create more, you get to know who you are and how far you can stretch. You can expand your life to encompass the needs of others and to create work that inspires, entertains and delights. When you give of yourself—and not give yourself away, then your work is a Gift and you become aware of the depth of your soul and creativity and find the love for others that makes life worth living. ... The Gift of Today In the relentless pursuit of tomorrow's aspirations, we often find ourselves entrapped in the anticipation of what lies ahead, inadvertently overlooking the precious gift bestowed upon us today. Today is not merely a placeholder between the past and the future; it is a present, a parcel of gift awaiting to be unwrapped with gratitude. It is a sanctuary of moments, worth our celebration. As we hustle and bustle for the fulfillment of our ambitions, let us pause for a second, and recognize the array of gifts we are blessed with; the gift of life, the laughter of loved ones, the roof over our heads, the clothes on our bodies, the food on our tables, the peace in our households; these realities are not mundane but answers to prayers we prayed yesterday. The gift of today extends beyond personal celebrations; it is also an opportunity to bless. Today is a receptacle of kindness, compassion, and connection. We can extend a helping hand, share a word of encouragement, make a positive impact on the lives of those around us with today’s little while we work towards tomorrow’s abundance. Are you praying for a child? Be a blessing to someone’s child today. Praying for an open door, open up your doors to someone in need. Whatever you’re praying and working hard for, extend similar help to a stranger or loved one today. By embracing this gift, we make proof of the gifts of today and contribute to a ripple effect of positivity that transcends the boundaries of the present moment. Let us not be so preoccupied with the dreams of tomorrow that we miss the enchantment of today. For in acknowledging the gift of today, we unlock the door to a life filled with profound moments, meaningful connections, and an enduring sense of fulfillment. Today is not just a fleeting moment, it is a treasure trove of blessings waiting to be enjoyed. Remember, the present is the future you anticipated for in the past. Dr. Jones, or Indiana as his friends referred to him, was correct: we are going to die. It is an universal and natural part of life, so the earlier and deeper we can engage and accept Death, the better prepared we’ll be when that moment arrives. How are you exploring a relationship with death in your own life? Do you have any daily rituals or practices that help you accept your own mortality? What does death mean to you? What are your afterlife beliefs? Do you get curious about any death anxiety you might experience? Do you work with your dreams or visions that are death related, including end of life dreams and visions? How do you navigate grief and loss? What are your end of life plans or wishes? As a Thanatologist, these are some of the areas that we co-create and co-curate for people who are proactively exploring a deeper relationship with death and grief in their lives.

Every day I look through the posts on Linkedin, but today I was reminded of a time I worked for a company as a salesman on straight commission. I was ranked number 3 out of 11 sales people. My gross profit was 32% while the company average was only 19%. One day the owner called me into his office and asked me a question. What has changed in your life? You act much different than before and you gross profit numbers are higher than others. I pondered for a minute and realized the only change in my life at that time was that I joined a new church. The owner and I talked longer about my new church and how it has changed my life. Since that discussion and the new membership in my church, I have had a most successful business life. I have owned a convenient store, a packaging distribution company, and a foam manufacturing company all because my attitude changed after joining a new church. I have been a VP, Director of Sales, and have help turnaround several companies in different industries. None of these things would have happened if I did not follow the teachings of my church. Why have I written all this? Not to brag, but to encourage everyone reading this to get back to church and be a good person or find a church to go to. In this crazy world, everyone needs Faith in something beyond themselves. Here is a link to a book that will change your life as it did me.
