Be honest, even a good ninja would have been trained by a great sensei. having said that, nowadays there are plenty of resources to learn about many subjects. company specific processes and best practices, probably will not be available publicly. having a mentor or a buddy does shorten the learning curve and minimize frustration of learning via trials and errors. Having somebody coaches you, probably will make you willing to help and coach others too. it just creates a more supporting working environment.
