David Fields, CEO of ACHP CAP member Navitus Health Solutions, on CNBC this afternoon: “PBMs operate much like a casino: they set the odds, they set the rules, and it’s virtually impossible for a customer to reap the benefits because the traditional PBM steps in and takes part of that.”   We couldn’t agree more. No one will ever accuse our firm as apologetic for any payor that doesn’t address cost of goods, needed clinical and financial outcomes , optimal provider and member experience as well health equity in clear fashions. The posting lacks context and detail. The issues , considerations , business models and overall market merit / require facts over rhetoric . Members of the ACHP often find themselves under unwarranted and inaccurate attacks for “vertical integration “ and conflicts of interest as health systems that own or operate health plans. Some are presently under attack(warranted or unwarranted ) for abuse of 340b We are presently putting together a few pieces to TRY to better explain and evaluate both PBMs and health plan network constructs/ value propositions.Balancing needed details and utility to broad audiences makes it difficult -but not impossible . We welcome comments, critiques and context on what we write.

Sorry navitus. I just don’t buy it. Navitus was horrible to navigate and we couldn’t even get through to a proper customer service agent when we encountered and issue. You’re just like every other health care organization who doesn’t properly train their front line agents.

Yes! As we note, the Big 3 PBMs are clear as mud. Please join us in urging Congress to act this year. #drugprices #transparency
