Her goal was to explore how various parameters, such as gel type, voltage, and density, impact the separation process. Sandra's decision to pursue this internship was driven by her desire to gain hands-on experience and bridge the gap between academic theories and real-world applications. Through extensive data analysis, collaboration with mentors and peers, and participation in workshops, she honed her technical skills and problem-solving abilities. This time, let's dive into a case on 'Data Science and Pharmaceuticals' by 大阪大学 (Osaka University) × Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim! It's an exceptional example where a D2 student from Osaka University applied their expertise in data science to pharmaceuticals 👏 😎 Intern's voice 💬 "I joined with the aim of learning how to translate basic research into pharmaceuticals and gain insights into clinical applications. The six-month duration allowed me to actively participate in setting goals, objectives, and methods, which provided me with invaluable experiences. During the internship, I worked on preparing for statistical analysis of patients' genetic information and predicting and proposing optimal formulation processes based on formulation data analysis. Since I lacked the necessary background for both tasks, I began by reading papers and studying, asking questions whenever I encountered difficulties. I was particularly anxious about the formulation data analysis due to my lack of chemical knowledge, but it turned out to be the most exciting part. I enjoy creating theories from existing data, so it was a great fit for me. When I proposed alternative perspectives on formulation development, I received positive feedback from many people, which boosted my confidence a bit." 😊 Company Researcher's voice🔍 "Our goal was to leverage the expertise of the intern, who is a data scientist, to understand tasks and concepts conceptually, bridging them with new elements. As a data scientist, the intern was tasked with identifying optimal formulation designs and analyzing them to find more stable formulation conditions. We also set a theme to understand emerging technologies and research data from academia and venture companies, discern their essence, and contemplate their future development together. The intern's analysis provided new insights, allowing us to refine our research and paving the way for future developments. Actively welcoming students from new fields and domains has been extremely valuable for us to delve into new sciences."
