That’s why we’ve joined the Albertsons Companies Foundation in a groundbreaking coalition to tackle summer hunger through the USDA’s new Summer EBT program. Partnering with @FeedingAmerica, @FRACtweets, @GiftCardBank, @HungerFreeUSA, @mRelief_form, @nokidhungry, and @PHAnews we’re reaching over 200 foodbanks, 300 school districts, and 1,500 organizations. Eligible families can get $120 per child for groceries. Check if you qualify at SummerEBT.org.

🍞Every year our amazing client, Second Story, helps provide Thanksgiving dinner for families in need in Northern Virginia, and they can’t do it without our community’s help! With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, it’s time to start planning! Second Story is collecting Thanksgiving Baskets. Please consider creating one! A quick trip to the grocery store is all it takes. Each basket should include: 🍂Gift card for $10 or more to Safeway, Giant, or Shoppers for purchasing a turkey or other kind of meat. (please no fresh or frozen turkeys, as Second Story does not have a way to refrigerate them.) 🍂Pasta or mac and cheese 🍂Cooking oil 🍂Dry black beans 🍂Rice 🍂Two types of canned vegetables 🍂Canned fruit for dessert or a box of dessert mix 🍂Shelf-stable UHT milk (such as Parmalat) or additional money on the gift card to purchase milk to drink with the meal 🍂Maseca brand flour (or similar) 👉Every basket should contain enough items to feed six people 🗓️Deadline: November 20, 2023 📋For drop-off and community service hours information, please contact second-story.org #donationsneeded #communitysupport #valuedclient

Did you know that 117,120 (1 in 6) children are food insecure in the 26 counties served by the St. Louis Area Foodbank. That is equivalent to the total number of students in the following districts: St. Louis Public Schools, Rockwood, Wentzville, Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt, Parkway, Edwardsville, and Collinsville, combined. Think about that - as we get ready to have our children, our future, out on summer vacation. We talk about food insecurity at the St. Louis Area Foodbank and think it's important to add some data to our discussions, thanks to Feeding America and their annual "Map the Meal Gap" study to shed light on the real needs of families across the bi-state region, and our country. The third annual Pantry Bowl kicks off on Nov. 19! Want to get involved? Check out a few ways below:   1. Make a gift — the minimum is $5, and the competition is based on the number of gifts received, so each gift is important.  2. Roxbury Community College takes action to support students facing food insecurity during winter break. The on-campus pantry, 'Rox Box,' closed for the holidays, but before the break, staff provided Stop & Shop gift cards, free meals, and a list of local spots for food access. This initiative, supported by grants and donations, helps over 200 students combat food insecurity. The effort aligns with the college's response to a survey showing 15% of students face food insecurity, impacting academic progress. Statewide, 1 in 3 public university students experience food insecurity, emphasizing the need for support beyond high school.
