I’ve walked through Boston’s neighborhoods and seen a tale of two cities. On one end, you’ll find world-class specialists on every corner—a testament to our medical prowess. But just a few blocks away, it’s a different story. Here, getting a primary care appointment is as tough as finding gold. It’s a stark divide that speaks volumes. This divide isn’t just about healthcare; it's also about the power of the vote—or the lack thereof. Areas struggling for health services are often the same ones missing from voter rolls. It’s no accident. This is a cycle where silence breeds neglect, and neglect deepens the silence. We need to do more than improve access to doctors. We need to revive civic engagement. If we're going to heal our community, we must connect residents with their rights as voters. This is about mending our community’s fabric, weaving together health and democracy, one thread at a time. Let’s make sure every voice is heard and valued. It's time to bridge these gaps. #civichealth #healthcarebasedvoterregistration

Did you know? Research examining civic engagement and state health outcomes between 1996 and 2020 revealed a positive association: states with higher levels of civic engagement and voter participation tend to experience improved public health outcomes. Additionally, the Health & Democracy Index analysis has demonstrated that states with inclusive voting policies and fewer voting barriers exhibit better health outcomes; conversely, states with restrictive voting policies tend to have worse health outcomes. According to the Index, these voting barriers also contribute to the exacerbation of existing health disparities, such as disparities in infant mortality rates. Happy National Public Health Week! One group in public health that supports civic engagement is Community Health Workers (CHWs). And an issue impacting CHWs that could be changed by civic engagement is CHW certification. You may have noticed that I took CHW off my profile. That’s because I was certified in a state with a state-operated program and then moved to a state without a program, meaning I could not transfer my certification, even though I continue to work on a significant public health issue: domestic abuse. And it turns out there is not yet a national certification program for CHWs, plus about half of all U.S. states don’t have a certification program. Should CHWs even have to be certified? Interested to hear your thoughts. #NPHW #NPHWChat #CHW #CommunityHealthWorker #PublicHealth #PublicHealthSocialWork #SocialWork #MacroSocialWork #MacroSW
Today is the first day of National Public Health Week! Monday is all about CIVIC ENGAGEMENT! Voting and other forms of civic engagement shape our community and how it allocates resources to support our opportunity for healthy lives. And studies show better public health outcomes in states where more people vote. www.NPHW.org #NPHW

1 in 4. Remember this statistic. It’s the number of people who are served by Health Centers across the United States of America. Over the past 50 + years the movement has become more and more significant and quite frankly, critical. This movement is like no other. It’s about courage, fortitude, perseverance, and compassion. It’s not a job it’s a way of life. It’s about advocating for all. It’s about being a solution for the ills of the world. It’s about lifting up while strengthening America’s landscape. With just a little federal funding, every dime is stretched and generating 6 times over. The person wins, the employee wins, the local economy wins, the state wins, and more significantly, the nation wins. Special thanks to Congress and to all U.S. Presidents over the past 50 years who have allocated funding to this beautiful movement. We are super excited to support our team who sacrifice daily to ensure that the mission lives on. To all the leaders, employees, patients, and families we salute you. To all of the volunteer and consumer board members, your service matters. #NationalCHCWeek🎉 #HealthCentersBridgingGaps #Advocacy #AmericaWinsWithCHCs #CelebratingQualityinHealhcare #EVERYONEMATTERS #INCLUSIVCARES
📣 To kick off National Health Center Week, August 4-10, the White House issued a proclamation recognizing the key role Community Health Centers play in making sure health care is a right in this country, not a privilege: "Federally funded community health centers are a lifeline for over 30 million Americans nationwide — providing affordable access to quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services, which save lives. Community health center sites are especially critical for people in Tribal, rural, and underserved communities because they are often the closest and most convenient sources of care. During National Health Center Week, we recognize the importance of the nearly 1,400 federally funded community health centers that provide critical services to Americans. We express our gratitude to their dedicated staff, who tirelessly devote themselves to the well-being of their patients. And we recommit to ensuring that every American has access to good-quality, affordable health care." Read the full proclamation: https://lnkd.in/e4E4hyDv #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs
