📖 Innovative Early Years Educator. I create educational contents that provides insights on Playbased learning, creativity and age appropriate curriculum.

Why I Chose the Teaching Profession My journey into teaching was unexpected. Growing up, my mother, a passionate teacher, struggled financially despite her dedication. During summers, she would gather children to teach and make extra income, often splitting classes for my elder brother and me to manage. We rarely attended summer classes ourselves, as we were always teaching. Witnessing this, I initially wanted a different career—pharmacy—one that promised financial stability. After writing JAMB and meeting the cutoff for my Post UTME, I was disappointed not to get admission. That same year someone told my mom about a University of Education where I ran a foundation program to take me to 200 level, provided I meet the cut off mark, they didn't offer my preferred course so I reluctantly chose Computer Science Education, still determined to avoid the classroom. Fast forward to my teaching practice, I recall strongly the first time my cooperating teacher, saw me teaching in the classroom, I had always stayed behind him to pretending I had no idea of teaching, he was impressed with my skills, questioning why I had avoided teaching (I smiled because I knew what I wanted) I wanted a career that promised peace of mind and financial security. Post-graduation, I worked as a secretary but lacked enthusiasm, I just didn't enjoy the work, to cap it all, the salary wasn't even enough to sustain the life I envisioned. However, I was always excited to teach at my church on Sundays. Eventually, my boss noticed my lack of interest and suggested I take time off to find my true calling. In her words, she said Fola, go and think about what you want to do and let me know if you need anything. The next day, I confidently dropped my CV at a nearby school, sure that I wanted to teach. I aced the interview and was assigned to teach Pre-School 1.... Oh no! Not the preschool.... I told the woman, any other class but the preschool... But then, it was the only available role. Initially hesitant, this role marked the start of my fulfilling journey in education. I'll share how I was able to cope in the preschool some other time but, I can say that embracing teaching has been one of the best decisions of my life.
