ADASS Autumn Report 2023 is out.   💡 They quote the Institute of Government who rightly say that crisis-cash-repeat is not a sustainable solution or one that is working. 📉 They do note short term cash to accelerate assessments has reduced lists temporarily in the face of a 11.4% vacancy rate for social workers (as a comparison NHS is 8%). 🤕 With an 8% increase in numbers waiting assessment 68% of Directors have reported increases in referrals due to carer breakdown. The main factors being burnout and lack of health and support. ⛓ This highlights for the intricacies of our social care system and how interwoven Social Care , Health and the Charitable sectors are and moreover how, when these are out of sync, it impacts not only on the individual needing support but also their support network.

I have always used my prior experience of working in community mental healthcare to guide my research and policy work. When I speak out against weaknesses in this system, it is because I want things to improve for those working in the system and for people that rely on these systems. I am hoping that by talking about these issues from the perspective of a researcher, but also as someone who was burnt out and struggling to work in this system, that changes can happen. In this "Ask and Answer" session, a health center wanted to know if they could use grant funding to purchase a van for health services and other community health outreach efforts. The vehicle would travel to hard-to-reach communities, such as areas that are very rural, more than 30 miles from the health center, and to districts with lower primary care use.
