BREAKING 🚨 Members of the Paramilitary RSF have looted Khartoum’s National Museum, with further thefts reported at the Khalifa and Nyala museums. Temporally and spatially, the KNM is not only vital in its collection history, but also as an important marker for Sudanese identity in the ongoing national armed conflict with the SAF. The securitisation of cultural heritage as a threat indicator for the conduct of war, needs to be further integrated into strategy and policy. For further reading on the geographical implications of this theft, read Abdelrahman Mohamed & Geoff Emberling’s ‘The Sudan National Museum and National Heritage in Sudan’ chapter in National Museums in Africa: Identity, History and Politics.

Museums can be either proactive or reactive when it comes to #provenance #research. Its importance as an integral part of museums will continue to grow. 👀 But also: “Provenance doesn’t have to look the same [in] every museum. Every museum has a different structure" and "Though there is now 'more support and more awareness, provenance really requires long-term investment in a collection." (Judith Barr) 💡More insightful comments on what's happening in the U.S. and on how provenance research is increasingly conducted on objects taken from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Indigenous peoples, in this article: https://lnkd.in/gRNGH78T

Let’s hope higher education is doing more than just following the NAGPRA regulations. Universities and colleges also need to figure out how to teach its implementation more effectively in degree programs. Anyone have an example of a degree program that’s particularly effective in teaching how to implement NAGPRA—i.e., more than just describing the law and rules, but actually involving students in its implementation through real-world practice?
After 20 years - a cultural shift in American Museums will finally be implemented as museums across the country scramble to hire qualified candidates to help them navigate the new NAGPRA guidelines. https://lnkd.in/eFwVCkmW

🚀 "This approach to creating exhibitions should become a standard part of modern museology, as it allows museums to better capture the needs and expectations of visitors and create content that is even more educational and engaging." – Ivo Macek, Director of the Muzeum Prahy. We recently had the opportunity to work with the Muzeum Prahy on an innovative project aimed at enhancing their Prague of Charles IV – The Medieval Town exhibition. As the team behind the visitor behavior analytics, we provided key insights that helped the museum reshape the experience and bring history to life in a whole new way! 🏛️💡 Here’s what the Museum of Prague achieved using our data: 🔍 Analyzed Visitor Flow: By gathering insights on how visitors moved through the space and what caught their attention, the museum gained a deeper understanding of visitor preferences. 🎥 Boosted Multimedia Content: The museum strategically increased the presence of interactive screens and videomapping, turning them into standout features. 📦 Optimized Displays: Fewer but more focused exhibits now allow visitors to enjoy a clearer, less crowded experience. ✍️ Simplified Text Panels: Long descriptions were replaced with concise, engaging text to improve readability and enjoyment. This project is a great example of how data-driven insights can empower cultural institutions like museums or galleries to create more engaging experiences. 👉 Read the full press release (in Czech) here: https://lnkd.in/eBe9kKzN #Museum #Culture #Innovation #DataDriven #VisitorExperience #InteractiveExhibits #Prague

Venus of Milo Exhibition Started (1964) On 8 April 1820, on the Aegean island of Milos, the Greek farmer Yorgos Kentrotas dug out pieces of stone on the island. When put together, they formed a standing statue of a beautiful woman. Venus of Milo Discovered. Yorgos hid it from detection but the statue was discovered and confiscated by the Ottoman officials who ruled the island. The French ambassador to Turkey, the Marquis de Rivière, bought from the Ottoman and next, a French naval admiral asked for it. After being presented to Louis XVIII, it was donated to the Louvre in 1821, where it found a permanent home. On 8 April 1964, a special exhibition opened at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo. The Asahi Shimbun newspaper obtained permission from the French Government to exhibit the work in Japan, taking advantage of the fact that the Tokyo Olympics, an event of Greek origin, were to be held in the autumn of that year. The exhibition attracted 831,198 visitors in Tokyo until 15 May, and was on display at the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art from 21 May to 25 June, attracting a total of 1.72 million visitors to the two museums. https://lnkd.in/gKBsACqm This was the sole opportunity that the exhibition was shown outside France. Japanese newspaper companies have correspondents abroad and build up a strong network of contacts with embassy staff and others. It is therefore not unusual for newspapers to organise touring exhibitions. Exhibitions in Japan are of limited duration and are heavily promoted by the organising newspapers and affiliated TV stations, which is why visitors are often swamped, making it difficult to appreciate the artworks at a leisurely pace. In the Louvre, you can view the works in a more relaxed manner. #OnThisDay #onthisdayjapan #todayinhistory #VenusofMilo #thelouvre #ミロのビーナス #ルーブル美術館

🏛️At the emblematic El Greco Museum (Toledo, Spain), the preservation of art and culture is a priority. Recently, we have completed the installation and commissioning of our humidity control equipment. Humidity is a critical parameter in museums and conservation rooms. Depending on the conditions and situation, the absence of air humidity control can result in: ➡️Mold formation, which compromises both the structural integrity and aesthetics of the works. ➡️Deterioration of organic materials, putting priceless historical pieces at risk. ➡️Crystallization of salts on antique metal parts and dissected specimens, which can lead to irreversible damage. Thanks to our experience in this type of application and the advanced technology of our equipment, we are able to avoid these problems, significantly improving the conservation of the valuable artifacts and works of art housed in the museum. This ensures that the cultural legacy of the El Greco Museum continues to inspire future generations. #Fisair #HumidityControl #MuseoDelGreco #Humidifier #Dehumidifier
