BEYOND ACTING OUT: Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is a developmental condition affecting some children. Often described as a subtype of autism, it involves a pattern of resistance to everyday requests and strong emotional and behavioural reactions. For example, a simple request to get dressed can lead to a child’s intense need to control the situation, fights and meltdowns.
