On Wednesday, it was announced by AstraZeneca that they would invest $245 million in French biotechnology company Cellectis, with the deals main aim to speed up the development of therapeutics in areas such as oncology, rare diseases and immunology. The deal will include an initial $80 million investment, followed by another $140 million in early 2024, which will give AstraZeneca a stake of about 44% in the French company. Cellectics’ gene editing technology along with its capabilities to create novel cell and gene therapy products will only add to AstraZeneca’s growing presence in the space.
