Connect VNets to on-prem resources
I want to begin by discussing VNet to VNet connections. In the last section, we talked about VNet peerings, which is a way you can connect any two Azure VNets together. Another way to do that is what's called a VNet to VNet connection. This sets up essentially a VPN connection between two Azure VNets. It's similar to what we will discuss next, which is a VPN connection between an on-prem network and a VNet. Data is passed through an encrypted tunnel when you set up a VPN connection. If you remember when I mentioned VNet peerings, I said it passes over the Microsoft backbone, but it's not encrypted. In a VPN connection like this, it is encrypted. When you set it up, you specify a type. If you choose VPN type, it uses public Internet as the network, so that data can pass to different regions East U.S., West U.S. It would pass over the Internet but through an encrypted tunnel.
