What Your Job Will Be Like:
As a Vacuum Engineer, you will provide support for the development, operation, and improvement of all vacuum systems for superconducting (SRF) cavities and accelerator facilities, from low to ultra-high vacuum (UHV) and particulate free. Contribute to reliable implementation and operation for superconducting cavity development, CEBAF and other Jefferson Lab initiatives.

In This Role You Will:
- Design, develop, and evaluate vacuum systems and its components, including procedures for integration and operation, calculate vacuum gas loads, pressure profiles, pumping speeds, safety features and utility requirements.
- Develop methods for particle free assembly and surface cleaning of vacuum systems and superconducting cavities, including development of plasma processing methods.
- Develop methods to improve vacuum system efficiency and reliability, including radiation hardness.
- Plan and coordinate integration and maintenance of the vacuum systems.
- Train staff on the best-practice handling, assembly, and operation of vacuum systems.
- Develop and maintain functional requirements and technical documentation for vacuum systems.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics
- 10 years of relevant experience
- Experience supervising staff, setting and managing expectations, performance, and professional development.
- Can use mathematical methods including calculus and differential equations, to simulate pump-down curves, vacuum pressure profiles, and differential pumping schemes.
- Able to work independently and in teams.
- Able to effectively train people outside his/her work group.
- Able to give effective presentations to critical/high level customers and effectively represent work group on review panels and cross-organizational teams.
- Can write convincing proposals and reports with all necessary backup material for external consumption.
Education
- Ph.D. in Physics or Engineering
- Experience in large-scale accelerator projects or facilities
- Experience in leading a project with cost and schedule responsibilities.
- Use of cleanroom techniques and procedures. Methods for particle free connections.
- Modelling and analysis tools for thermo-mechanical simulations.
- Data collection and analysis.
