Underwriter I-III (Private Banking)

Position Function:

Underwriter I-III:

Assesses risk, analyzes and helps to structure Private Banking credit requests to facilitate the credit decision-making process. Discusses requests with Private Banking Officers and/or Credit Administrators, periodically meets clients and prospective clients with Private Banking Officers. Provides support on renewals/modifications. Documents the credit decision and supporting rationale in a clear, fair, and balanced manner. Assures that all credits meet CPB quality targets, lending policies, and underwriting guidelines. Assists with team portfolio management. Coordinates documentation with Documentation Department and external attorneys, as needed.

Underwriter II:

May need to support the underwriting needs in other Bank Business Units (i.e., Commercial Banking, Business Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Corporate Banking, etc.) as needed.

Underwriter III:

Facilitates training needs of Private Banking for Officers and Underwriter I & II. Reviews the work of Underwriter I & II prior to presenting to Underwriting Manager. May need to support the underwriting needs in other Bank Business Units (i.e., Commercial Banking, Business Banking, Commercial Real Estate Lending, Corporate Banking, etc.) as needed.

Primary Accountabilities:

Conducts timely, well-informed, and balanced analysis, by evaluating financial and other information, resolving issues, and by accessing other internal and external sources.

Recommends appropriate loan structures to meet the needs of both customer and bank. Prepares written CAM, Modification, and other credit actions which shall clearly, concisely, and candidly communicate the underwriting decision and key supporting evidence.

Facilitates training needs of Private Banking for Officers and Underwriter I & II.

Reviews the work of Underwriter I & II prior to presenting to Underwriting Manager.

Supports the underwriting needs in other Bank Business Units (i.e., Commercial Banking, Business Banking, Commercial Real Estate Lending, Corporate Banking, etc.) as needed.

  • Assists the Team by understanding policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Team by minimizing ticklers, exceptions, and delinquencies.
  • Assists the Team by identifying loan re-grades promptly.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4-year university in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required.

Experience:

Underwriter I - 1+ years of Commercial credit analysis/underwriting or commercial lending preferred.

Underwriter II - 2+ years of Commercial credit analysis/underwriting or commercial lending required.

Underwriter III - 3+ years of Commercial credit analysis/underwriting or commercial lending required.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to perform light physical work and to move or lift items including but not limited to boxes, files and papers up to 20 pounds unless otherwise as indicated.
  • Must be able to operate and proficiently use standard office equipment, including phone, copier, personal computer and/or other work related mechanical or electronic devices and applications.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with all internal and external customers. Must also be able to hear sufficiently to engage in daily discussions and interactions.
  • Must be able to read and understand bank-related documents.
  • Must be able to work in a conventional office setting, involving sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods of time. Must also be able to adapt to different work environments as needed to perform the job.
