Position Details

Our Fiber Splicing crews work in support of our underground construction fiber-to-the-home crews to place cable in conduit and fusion splice fiber optic distribution cables into fiber enclosures throughout the Nevada markets. Tilson is seeking applicants who have skills in simultaneously managing multiple fiber splicing crews. Preferred candidates will have significant experience in performing fusion splicing of single and ribbon fiber optic cables, as well as proficiency in operating OTDR test equipment and utilizing best practices for fiber splicing production. The Fiber Splicing Manager role is a highly involved, daily production driving/tracking manager that oversees multiple crews of fiber splicers and cable placers to provide direction, priority guidance and scheduling coordination to complete project deliverables on time and under budget.

The Fiber Splicing Manager will be responsible for coordinating and establishing daily/weekly work flow schedules for each foreman or lead of each fiber splicing crews where Tilson is self-performing such work. This includes assigning resources (both internal and external) to projects and work flow task items to align with and meet all specified project completion deadlines. The Fiber Splicing Manager is responsible to lead their staff of reports into recognizing, assessing and controlling potentially hazardous situations in addition to maintaining the safety of the crews by giving crew leads direction regarding procedures, road safety, trench safety and general oversight, thus helping to maximize productivity and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily task objectives and work flows with the Construction Manager and PMO PM.
  • Manage and direct the work flow activities of fiber optic splicing crews internal and subcontractors.
  • Daily record-keeping of completed work (production) and tracking daily/weekly production budgets against actual production achieved.
  • Manage the placing, splicing and testing of fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables, including high count ribbon fiber of 864 count or higher, and manage the proper installation of splice cases and fiber termination panels in all markets overseen.
  • Manage the troubleshooting and maintenance needed to resolve signal problems and teach other fiber splicing technicians and leads how to perform this work.
  • Manage the operation of technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR, power meters, fusion splicing equipment, and teach others how to understand the functions
  • Mange the installation and dressing of fiber optic cabling and ensure that the work meets Tilson’s standards.
  • Must exhibit and uphold Tilson's safety values and ensure worksite safety

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing fiber cable placing and splicing crews
  • OSHA 10/30
  • Experience leading foreman and crew lead members
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Demonstrated management level experience with fiber optic cable placing, splicing and testing
  • Demonstrated experience with both loose tube and ribbon splicing as well as high count fibers
  • Proficiency with instructing others on the proper and safe use of tools including cable strippers, fiber hand tools, and electronic fusions splice machines and test equipment
  • Ability to multitask and simultaneously manage multiple crews in multiple locations effectively and efficiently on a daily basis and report operational results timely
  • Strong work ethic and desire to be a leader and trainer of future leaders.
  • Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Valid US Driver's License with no major violations in the past 3yrs
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to work safely, with or without supervision

Must be at least 21 years of age to meet Tilson’s driving eligibility requirements.

$95,000.00 - $120,000.00
