SKYHAWK VICE PRESIDENT OF ENGINEERING

Leading all hardware design, software/firmware development, quality assurance and testing for multiple product lines, Skyhawk’s Vice President of Engineering (VPE) will be a key driver of technical excellence, innovation and growth in Skyhawk’s Internet of Things (IoT) remote monitoring business. In this capacity, the VPE will manage a direct and indirect staff of approximately 15-20 individuals, and also have access to resources in China and Malaysia.

This highly differentiated capability opens up new applications for IoT monitoring which weren’t possible before, and also creates compelling ease-of-use, portability and sharing advantages in existing monitoring verticals.

The Vice President of Engineering is a new role which organizes the product development teams which previously reported to the CEO. Sitting at the intersaction of leadership and hands-on technical expertise, the position is an rare opportunity for an individual with deep and successful experience in IoT engineering management to join a company with a proven, award-winning IoT platform that is hitting revenue stride and building an organization to grow for the future.

Objectives of this role

  • Manage and motivate Skyhawk’s product development teams to deliver hardware products and mobile and server software applications according to design requirements, on schedule
  • Lead, grow, and nurture the talents, training and experience of product development team members, providing strategic guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
  • Deliver a consistency of user experience and product quality across all Skyhawk products
  • Ensure that the Skyhawk development teams have the resources and tools needed for success
  • Ongoingly improve the processes and procedures used by Skyhawk product development in support of the other objectives
  • Ensure that Skyhawk products take advantage of the latest applicable enhancements in sensing, communications, location services and other IoT-relevant technologies to enhance value to users and to increase differentiation from competitors
  • Develop, implement and manage product development budgets across the Skyhawk product lines to achieve Skyhawk’s business objectives on plan

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineering leaders, providing strategic guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Drive the design and architecture of complex, scalable systems that underpin Skyhawk solutions
  • Collaborate with product management and executive leadership teams to define technical roadmaps and ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Hands-on involvement in setting engineering standards, coding, debugging, and troubleshooting to maintain a deep understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Conduct regular reviews of engineering initiatives, ensuring adherence to best practices and high-quality standards
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and optimization
  • Act as a technical authority, providing insights into emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Manage the product development budget
  • Work with manufacturing teams to identify opportunities to cost to produce Skyhawk devices
  • Ensure customer-specific design requests once approved are delivered as committed to
  • Participate in company and management meetings

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science; advanced degree a plus
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience building hardware, firmware and software platforms
  • Experience in developing consumer-facing mobile applications

Skills And Qualifications

  • High level of organizational skills
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design principles and best practices
  • Experience with deploying systems on AWS
  • Familiarity with payment systems
  • Expert-level knowledge of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies including sensor networking, power management techniques, and cellular gateways
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
