Position Summary:
A Program Engineering Manager is ultimately responsible for the product design, development, and the release of their respective department’s products. This individual must demonstrate discipline, vision, and leadership in order to ensure direct reports are engineering company products appropriately. This is accomplished through documentation, administration, implementation, and enforcement of the procedures, standards, and best practices, inside and outside of the department. Receives guidance from the Senior Program Engineering
Manager and Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support, approve, and enforce engineering standards through implementation of best practices, company processes, and design reviews
Enforce full design and specification reviews across all components and assemblies, according to TS, Cooper Standard Design and Process Standards
Anticipate and recognize systemic issues within and outside the department; develop action plans for improvement
Manage professional employees and/or supervisors
Apply understanding of the business and how own team contributes to the achievement of results
Accountable for the performance and results of a team within own discipline
Support the overall department product strategy, and translate into actionable items for the team
Adapt/develop departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
Provide guidance to others on department personnel expenses, capital budgets, and ensure that budget line items are tracked and expensed properly between departments
Provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers
Ensure products are developed by utilizing CAE/Six‐Sigma tools and structure to ensure product and processes are fully validated
Impact the level of service and the team’s ability to meet quality and volume objectives in a timely manner
Guide by policies, resource requirements, budgets and the business plan
Ensure clear communication of lessons learned are shared within their respective department and across other departments including but not limited to Purchasing, Materials, Quality, etc.
Allocate resources to ensure proper support of all department business
Identify and resolves complex technical, operational and organizations problems
Guide, influence and persuade other either internally in other areas or externally with customers or agencies
Oversee reporting of DV and PV plans/status/results including any failures and root cause analysis to senior management
Work closely with cross‐functional teams with regards to identified VA/VE opportunities
Support the evaluation and troubleshooting of product build issues during all phases of the product lifecycle
May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description. Performs other related duties
Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree preferred; Masters or other advanced degree is a plus
Minimum of three years’ prior leadership experience preferred
Working knowledge of customer functional performance requirements
Ability to make decisions guided by policies, procedure and business plan; receives guidance from manager
Experience with launching a products from initial concept, prototype and customer trials, production launch, and service
Previous experience in tracking and recording internal and customer identified open issues from point of identification through to resolution
Ability to apply understanding of the business and how own team contributes to the achievement of results
Requires in‐depth understanding and application of concepts, theories and principles in own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines
Black Belt or Six‐Sigma experience a plus
Must have excellent technical and mechanical aptitude
Understanding of DFMEA, DVPR&R, PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP and Problem Solving
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Must understand the new vehicle development process
Some knowledge of customer product development and engineering change processes, acronyms are a plus
Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary
Work Environment/Work Conditions:
Professional Office Environment
Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
