POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Arlington, VA or Seattle, WA

Conservation International has formed a new center of excellence, focused on sustainable production in food and fiber and driving conservation impact through corporate partnership, regenerative agriculture for key commodities, and sustainable community production. Focus areas for the Center for Sustainable Lands and Waters (CSLW) include implementation of community-based incentives, and efforts to improve the sustainability of key commodities, including coffee, palm oil, soy, tuna, and shrimp. The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator is responsible for collecting and analyzing M&E data, preparing reports, sharing results, and assisting team members and stakeholders that depend on M&E data. They will serve as a technical and/or administrative resource within the CSLW, supporting both center-wide initiatives and individual projects.

The M&E Coordinator assists in gathering, developing, and distributing data and information on the Center’s performance against our targets as well as CI’s performance against the Nature Positive Economies strategy. They will support the organization by measuring and reporting on the quality and effectiveness of the program’s actions to support CI conservation priorities. The Coordinator also plays a role in capacity building and helping transfer knowledge to individuals across the organization, including within our Country Programs.

The M&E Coordinator will also provide direct support to individual CSLW projects and programs. This includes supporting improved data collection, management, and standardization to enable informed management decisions, as well as assisting senior staff to develop monitoring guidelines and strategies aligned with the overall strategic direction and program requirements.

This position does not manage staff. Work is performed under general supervision

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and help implement monitoring and evaluation plan(s).
  • Support the CSLW’s M&E efforts, including reporting on the institution’s “Southern Cross” goals – particularly the Nature Positive Economies (NPE) star. Support NPE Star and CI-wide Southern Cross goal strategy development as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other M&E experts across CI to align and contribute to broader institutional reporting efforts, specifically the Strategy Team and associated M&E program and the Project Delivery and Monitoring Team.
  • Support the refinement of institutional indicators and key project- and program-level indicators as necessary.
  • Assist in developing the Center’s visual data dashboard(s) and associated data infrastructure. Ensure data is up to date and perform regular maintenance of the dashboard(s) as needed.
  • Support data management, collection, and standardization across the Center, including within the Development and Fundraising, Communications, Science, and institutional impact tracking teams as appropriate.
  • Collect and analyze data and prepare reports on results for internal use and per donor requirements.
  • Related duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility to travel occasionally as needed.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma.
  • 2 to 4 years of related work experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Team player and ability to effectively partner and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Google).
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) or similar software.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international development, conservation biology, natural sciences, and/or natural resource management preferred.
  • Experience working with different approaches, including MEL, MEAL, and MERL.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite of tools, in particular: Power BI, SharePoint Lists, and PowerApps.
  • Experienced user of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, spreadsheets, and relational database software (e.g., Excel, Access). Proficient with software systems, terminology, and procedures. Skilled in learning and adapting new software applications.
  • Intermediate data management and spatial data processing skills (e.g., ability to create/digitize shapefiles, correct geometries, test topography, join spatial and tabular files, and work in both geodatabase and shapefiles formats).
  • On-the-ground experience with conservation and development projects.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or French.
