The Marketing Manager is primarily responsible for analyzing marketing and promotional needs, and designing and implementing marketing communications strategies that support objectives within Enrollment Management. This includes both content writing and copywriting for multi-channel marketing campaigns that reach 500,000 new students annually. This includes, but is not limited to, promotional publications, emails, presentations, advertisements, brochures, event materials and a myriad of other digital and print content with the goal of generating leads, nurturing and converting prospective students (and their families) into inquiries, applicants and enrolled students.

Job Summary

Individuals in this position must have proven ability to write and edit for multiple channels including print, online, and social media outlets. They must also have written, oral and organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize and successfully meet tight deadlines; and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team. Additionally, they must have demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and a willingness to act on critical feedback; and be highly detail-oriented with strong internet usage skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat’s Creative Suite.


As part of your application for the Marketing Manager position, you will be required to provide a link to your online portfolio with writing samples of letters, brochures, emails, social posts, etc. in your cover letter.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to those with experience in writing on and offline content as well as content marketing and advertising principles
  • Experience writing in marketing or related department within a service-type industry.
  • General knowledge of the college admissions process.
  • Familiarity with AP style and full suite of Adobe and Microsoft products, particularly those related to graphic design.
  • General understanding of Technolutions Slate or other Constituent Relationship Management (CRM)system.
  • Advanced knowledge of or experience with AI.

  • Understanding of marketing and advertising trends in and outside of higher education. · Knowledge of marketing strategies and tactics and familiarity with digital tactics such as key word placement, SEO, email marketing and web analytics.
  • Excellent customer relations skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships for both internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to make presentations to large and small groups.
  • Must be knowledgeable of admissions policies and procedures and be familiar with national issues and trends in higher education.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Must be able to read and evaluate academic credentials.


Job Duties

  • Collaborate with marketing team to analyze, design, write and implement multi-channel marketing campaigns for 500,000 new prospective students and their families annually. Craft engaging, innovative, concise and targeted creative copy for USC’s prospective student, parent and counselor marketing, recruiting materials and special events that effectively communicates USC’s values, academic offerings and unique selling points to inspire and engage audiences to apply and enroll. Ensure all deliverables adhere to admission and university brand guidelines and maintain content integrity and accuracy. Examples include: email campaigns, direct response pieces, print publications, event promotions, social media, presentations, guides and others.
  • Manage the university’s primary virtual tour asset which is an integral part of undergraduate admissions’ search acquisition strategy. Work closely with all academic departments and student services areas on updating multiple media types. Monitor overall tour performances, results and accessibility of individual tour stops and present recommendations to leadership for needed adjustments. Serve as the primary liaison with the YouVisit vendor (EAB) on ongoing enhancements including AI and other responsive technology and accessibility, and integrating the tour into third-party search platforms.
  • Serve as the second administrator for undergraduate admissions’ digital asset management system and AI chatbot. Edit and proof all communication/materials disseminated for our office. Ensure deliverables across all areas are cohesive in voice and style, maintain branding standards and comply with relevant regulations including accessibility.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research with our target audiences and use data-driven insights to improve effectiveness of print and digital marketing content. Work with the Marketing Technology team to analyze target audience demographics / psychographics to tailor messaging for all audience types and to identify best practices in higher education content marketing.
  • Selectively review applications for admissions and make decisions based on departmental policy; review applications for scholarships. Travel and represent USC at recruiting and outreach programs as needed. Participate in on-campus recruiting events and training to develop professional skills needed for success in admissions and marketing.
