This position is currently for a vacancy on our Forestry Crew. This crew is responsible for the removal, pruning, stump grinding, and replacement of city-owned street trees, landscape maintenance, and mowing. Equipment used would include operating a chipper truck, dump truck, chipper, bucket truck, chainsaw, leaf blower, stump grinder, skid loader, backhoe, and forestry mulcher.


This position falls under the USW union contract. The starting hourly pay for this position is $22.033 per hour. Below is the outline of our current wage structure as outlined in the City’s contract with the United Steelworkers (2022- 2024). This contract is negotiated every three years.

Starting hourly wage: $22.033/ hourly $45,828/ annually


Step 2 (After 12 months of service in Step 1): $24.347/ hourly $50,642/ annually


Step 3 (After 12 months of service in Step 2): $26.662/hourly $55,456/ annually


Step 4 (After 12 months of service in Step 3): $28.976/hourly $60,271/ annually

Step 5 (After 12 months of service in Step 4): $31.291/hourly $65,085/ annually

Step 6 (After 12 months of service in Step 5): $33.605/hourly $69,899/ annually


Essential Functions

Operates a variety of motorized vehicles and specialized mechanical and/or electronic equipment (i.e., dump truck with snowplow and salt spreading attachments, backhoe, front end loader, chain saw, chipper/leaf machine, jack hammer, sewer video camera, vac truck, post driver, mowers, skid steer loader or other equivalent types of equipment) based on the functions necessary to perform specific job duties.


Utilizes various hand tools (i.e., shovel, pick, axe, sledgehammer, handsaw, air wrench, welder, or other equivalent types of hand tools) based on the functions necessary to perform specific job duties.


Utilizes field mobile devices to complete work orders, maintain routine records, and communicate.


Maintains and repairs city vehicle and equipment inventory to ensure it is in good operating order.


Conducts inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies and informs supervisor of any resource needs.


Performs a variety of tasks relating to special events including traffic control and debris removal.


Ensures proper utilization of safety precautions, including proper barricades and traffic control devices.


Responsible for cleaning, camera inspection, and/or replacement of sanitary and storm sewer lines.


Monitors, cleans, and repairs wastewater lift station pumps and related facilities.


Performs chipper brush and leaf collection.


Performs road repairs including pavement and berm work.


Performs citywide landscape maintenance and right-of-way beautification tasks.


Plants, weeds, and waters flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns.


Maintains parks, multi-use paths, and athletic fields/courts.


Performs preventative maintenance and makes repairs to HVAC and related mechanical equipment; plumbing and electrical systems; maintaining facilities (doors, windows, ceiling, floors, walls, roofs, plumbing, heating, ventilation, etc.); and other maintenance related duties.


Performs simple mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting and dry-wall work.


Performs electrical repairs to City lift stations, streetlights, and traffic signal systems.


Plans, organizes, and performs traffic street sign fabrication, construction, installation, and repair tasks.


Sets up proper work zones and maintains job sites.


Operates CDL and non-CDL equipment.


Assists with custodial duties as assigned at city-owned public buildings and facilities.


Performs on-call repairs, when necessary, 24 hours a day for emergencies.


Performs all other duties as directed.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Operational knowledge of motorized, mechanical, and electronic equipment, (i.e., dump truck with snowplow and salt spreading attachments, tractor mower, backhoe, front-end loader, paint striper, chain saw, leaf vac, sewer vacuum, street sweeper, chipper, or other equivalent types of equipment.


Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in construction and maintenance work.


Must continuously and consistently demonstrate the initiative and responsibility to work in an efficient and productive manner with or without direct supervision.


Knowledge of the safe and correct use of hand and power tools.


Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work assigned.


Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.


Ability to complete work orders and written reports.


Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks.


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow Maintenance Technicians and to be courteous to the public.
