ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) is a statewide, not-for-profit organization that provides free legal services to eligible clients in civil cases through 8 branch offices. ILS is funded by the Legal Services Corporation, Indiana Civil Legal Aid Fund, United Ways, Area Agencies on Aging, and approximately 60 other funding sources. The ILRC, is located in our Indianapolis, Indiana regional office.

LOCATION: This position will be located in the Indianapolis office of Indiana Legal Services. There may be opportunities for working a hybrid remote work schedule.

JOB SUMMARY: The Directing Attorney, with the Project Director, supervises the legal work of the attorneys, intake specialists, paralegals, volunteers, interns, and other staff working in the Immigration and Language Rights Center (ILRC). The Directing Attorney works under the direct supervision of the Project Director of the ILRC.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Directing Attorney will:

  • Supervise the legal work of up to 5 attorneys, all but 1 paralegal, and the client services provided by the social worker. One paralegal and the intake work done by attorneys and paralegals will be supervised by the Project Director
  • Hold regular attorney meetings to discuss and assign new cases
  • Fostering growth and development among team
  • Work with the project director to administer annual performance reviews
  • Maintain a caseload of humanitarian immigration law cases
  • Work with the Project Director to ensure that the ILRC team operates in compliance with all relevant statutes, rules, and grant requirements.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with ILRC Project Director


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Dedicated to the mission of Indiana Legal Services.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in Indiana and have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Leadership and supervision skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to racial equity, social and economic justice and serving disadvantaged populations.
  • Minimum 4 years legal immigration experience


SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starting salary is $65,401, with a range up to a maximum of $96,743, depending on experience. ILS offers an excellent fringe benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, Rx), disability insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and a flex benefit plan.
