The Health Educator will provide students with vital information regarding their own health and how to advocate for themselves in the health care system. Through the education and outreach efforts of the member, students will learn about the health care facilities that Erie operates and their ability to access the centers without experiencing barriers. Often, the NHC member is a student’s initial point of contact with Erie.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Health Educator will provide sexual health and nutrition education to students and patients, facilitate health campaigns and outreach that promote Erie services, support transitions to adult care, and coordinate external services, such as dental and vision, for students. The Health Educator will also contribute to Erie-wide efforts around education, outreach, and resource navigation. This position will allow Erie to provide the necessary education for young people to lead healthy lives.
The Health Educator will provide support and education to patients across Erie including students, immigrants, low-income individuals, and those experiencing hardships.
Engaging in outreach and promoting health education topics and healthcare services
Facilitating interventions and classes about health issue prevention and management and overall wellness
Creating healthcare and wellness educational materials
Facilitating and conducting healthcare and wellness trainings and classes

Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements

Supervision
Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently
The supervisor assigns service activities in terms of project objectives and basic priorities and is available for consultation in resolving controversial issues.
Review
The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through complaints from customers, and through observation of the member at service.
Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.
Guidelines
Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service
Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards, and files of previous projects
Member must use considerable judgment in adapting current or developing new guidance
