What Your Job Will Be Like

Working under minimum supervision on the Hall C infrastructure

plus the setup and decommissioning of Hall C experiments,the successful candidate will work from verbal, written, and graphic instructions to provide technical/mechanical support on all aspects in the installation of systems and equipment related to the Jefferson Lab

Physics division experimental program and mission.

In This Role You Will

  • Work on all mechanical aspects in the installation and decommissioning of experimental setup in Hall C.
  • Assist with the operational readiness of Hall C during experiments. This includes the day to day monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance including being on call in rotation.
  • Become familiar with Hall C vacuum, cryogenic and controls systems and their operation sufficient to shut down and restart vacuum, LCW and other Hall C infrastructure equipment.
  • Work with machine tools such as CNC milling machine, Lathe, drill press, Brake press etc. manufacturing parts from various materials of drawings, sketches or verbal instructions. Note: must be able to utilize CAD-CAM software for CNC machines such as Master-Cam or similar machining software!
  • Complete fabrication of moderately complex equipment which can include some TIG, Stick or MIG welding.
  • Procure and fit/assemble parts for beam line and spectrometer arrangements, vacuum components and LCW systems.
  • This position requires periods of on call support and can require some overtime or shift work at times.

Qualifications We Require

Education

  • High School Diploma

Experience

  • 9 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • The ability to safely operate, cranes, forklifts, trucks and trailers and work platforms
  • General knowledge of electro mechanical equipment, LCW system, Hall C infrastructure (fans A/C’s, PSS etc.) grout and concrete work (anchoring, cutting, grinding), pressure washing and coating.
  • Effective communication skills as it relates to providing feedback to users or designers and the understanding of written or verbal work instructions and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment, as well as flexible hours when required during beam operation
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Ability to complete TIG, Stick and/or MIG welding

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities We Prefer

  • Working knowledge of cryogenics and Vacuum technology, including vacuum leak testing
