What Your Job Will Be Like

The incumbent will play a vital role in the construction, testing and installation of complex experimental equipment at our world-class research facility. The laboratory is currently building several new, large scientific instruments including magnet systems, vacuum systems, and a variety of particle detectors. This often includes prototypes, setups and infrastructure to enable test measurements. You will have an opportunity to learn, develop, and perfect your skills in areas including parts fabrication, equipment assembly, troubleshooting and repair, performance testing, running diagnostics, and many other exciting disciplines.

In This Role You Will

  • Be a member of the Hall A technical team that is responsible for the installation and removal of experimental equipment
  • Work with experienced technicians to perform maintenance, troubleshoot, or repair equipment used for scientific research
  • Expand your knowledge in areas such as electronics, vacuum systems, material handling, and cryogenics
  • Provide technical support for staff, users, and college students conducting research in Experimental Hall A
  • Serve as part of a rotational on-call that is design to support the current and upcoming experimental needs

Qualification We Require

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrate basic skills, knowledge and ability in one technical trade or specialty
  • May have basic skills, knowledge and ability in other technologies
  • Limited judgement required to complete assignments
