Financial Aid Counselor

The Financial Aid Counselor provides guidance to students and families of Anderson University, by counseling them on financial aid opportunities, including federal, state, and institutional financial aid in a courteous and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to prospective, current, and former students and families in the office, virtually, by phone, and by email
  • Participate in special university recruitment and orientation events (Discovery Days, SOAR, orientations, College Goal Sunday, presentations, school fairs, etc.)
  • Assist prospective and returning students and families in filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Assist families with FAFSA verification process (contact students regarding required documents, review, and process documents, and submit changes to Federal Student Aid)
  • Award prospective and returning students financial aid (including traditional undergraduate, graduate, and School of Theology)
  • Add outside scholarships when award notifications are received, adjusting other financial aid as necessary
  • Apply departmental grants, graduate assistantships, remitted tuition, and tuition exchange, as approved
  • Monitor the disbursement of aid, ensuring aid is applied to student accounts in a timely manner (assist students and parents completing Master Promissory Note, Entrance Loan Counseling, etc.)
  • Complete and return educational paperwork (VOC Rehab, Family and Social Services Administration, etc.)
  • Monitor financial aid eligibility and respond accordingly (based on changes to enrolment, information provided by Federal Student Aid, National Student Loan Data System, Selective Service, State of Indiana, etc.)
  • Counsel families through special circumstances, gathering and reviewing documentation
  • Stay current with changing federal and state laws and regulations to maintain compliance, seeking continuing education at every opportunity
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

A college degree is preferred. Prior work experience may substitute for education and/or training. Prior experience in customer service, financial aid counseling. Mmaintain team-oriented spirit, and working in a face-paced environment is desired. Knowledge of federal and Indiana financial aid regulations, a strong commitment to higher education, and experience working with PwerFAIDS is advantageous. Applicants for this position must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be detail-oriented. Flexibility in work schedule is required with the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends during peak seasons. This is an on-campus in office position. Must meet University lifestyle expectations.
