Director of Logistics

The Director of Logistics is a key leader in the pursuit of world class safety, service and efficiency in our client’s distribution network. Leading the transportation department, you will be charged with oversite of the distribution strategy, reducing cost across our client’s logistics and delivery network, managing the capital strategy and execution for our client’s fleet, advancing new technologies, enhancing metric reporting, overseeing driver safety and performance, ensuring superior customer experience and delivery excellence. Using your analytical skills, you will partner with manufacturing, sales, supply chain and warehousing to continuously evaluate and optimize our client’s robust and growing logistics network.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the transportation department and all functions including dispatch, driver safety, fleet management and compliance.
  • Partner cross-functionally with key stakeholders to evaluate changes to our client’s transportation and logistics network. Identify opportunities for improvement while leading operational execution in transportation.
  • P&L owner responsible for the division logistics performance and the transportation profit and loss statement.
  • Evaluate performance and changes in the distribution network due to seasonality, customer growth, advances into new territories, and impact of new products leading to the development of strategies for efficiency improvements.
  • Oversee all programs for safety, compliance, maintenance, and performance of company owned and leased transportation assets.
  • Leverage partnerships with key suppliers for enhanced services and reduced down-time and costs.
  • Business process owner of the Transportation Management System (TMS), ensuring use and adoption of the technology while optimizing system capabilities and the efficiencies the system brings.
  • Lead the transportation impact assessments for moves to new markets or changes in existing markets, understand the costs and develop the analysis to drive change and enhance performance.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to drive increased revenue and profitability in key territories by improving delivery service performance.
  • Evaluate options and deliver solutions to achieving corporate financial goals and initiatives.
  • Partner with the warehousing team in the oversite of maintenance and capital planning for warehouse material handling equipment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to prepare the annual transportation budget and capital purchase requirements to support company fleet needs.
  • Oversee management of the fleet through asset life cycle.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or comparable.
  • Demonstrated technical capability with Routing and Transportation Management Software to include sourcing and implementation.
  • 7-10 years of experience in supply chain management, transportation, distribution or logistics.
  • $20M minimum of previous P&L ownership.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship of direct reports.
  • Demonstrated analytical and project management skills.
  • Experience using business intelligence software and analyzing data to build business cases.
  • Advanced software experience using Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint.
