Director Environment Health Safety

Position Summary

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of comprehensive health, safety, and environmental strategies. This role ensures the safety and well-bring of employees, compliance, with industry regulations, and the minimization of environmental impacts in the highly specialized and hazardous environment of oilfield and manufacturing.

Job Duties and Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the company's HSE vision, strategy, and objectives tailored to the oilfield services industry.
  • Integrate HSE considerations into the company’s strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the HSE department, fostering a culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship.

Policy and Procedure Development:

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of HSE policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to oilfield operations.
  • Ensure that all policies comply with local, national, and international legal requirements and industry best practices.
  • Regularly review and update HSE policies to reflect changes in regulations, technology, and industry standards.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure the company’s operations comply with all relevant HSE laws, regulations, and standards applicable to the oilfield services sector.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to identify and mitigate risks.

Develop and implement risk management strategies, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.

Incident Management and Reporting:

  • Lead investigations into HSE incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of incidents and prepare comprehensive reports for senior management and regulatory authorities.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for HSE performance and report on trends and areas for improvement.

Training and Development:

  • Design and implement HSE training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring they understand and comply with HSE policies and procedures.
  • Promote continuous learning and professional development within the HSE team.
  • Ensure that training programs are up-to-date and effective in addressing industry-specific hazards.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures tailored to oilfield operations.
  • Coordinate and conduct regular emergency drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of response plans.
  • Liaise with local emergency services and regulatory bodies to ensure effective collaboration during emergencies.

Environmental Management:

  • Oversee the implementation of environmental protection programs, including waste management, pollution prevention, and resource conservation.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices within the company.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, contractors, regulatory bodies, and the community, to promote HSE initiatives and foster collaboration.
  • Implements, maintains, and monitors the health, safety and environmental policies and programs of Comanche Gas Solutions
  • Activities include, but are not limited to, hazard identification and risk management, incident reporting, investigation and causal analysis, waste minimization, pollution prevention and control, emergency response, and various compliance activities in all areas of HSE
  • Coordinates, conducts and participates in proactive internal as well as regulatory and customer audits and inspections
  • Provides technical advice, data interpretation, training, and process improvement assistance to field operations and manufacturing personnel

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to read, analyze and summarize state and federal HSE policies and documentation
  • Knowledge of OSHA’s Process Safety Management
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong ability to review, analyze and summarize event investigations
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word or similar products
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and work under varying degrees of pressure

Minimum Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or equivalent is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in HSE management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the oilfield services or a related industry.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or equivalent. Specialized certifications related to the oil and gas industry are a plus.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties
  • Wearing hearing protection within high level noise areas as required
  • Wearing eye protection
  • Wearing a hard hat
