Development and Training Specialist

The Content & Training Specialist plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering comprehensive training programs for the advisers working with high school students across the country. The primary focus of this role is to equip advisers with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to guide students through the post-secondary education planning process. This is currently achieved through webinars, asynchronous learning opportunities, and newsletters.

The Content and Training Specialist will:
Stay updated on best practices and trends in college admissions, career development, financial aid, and other relevant content areas;Design and develop live and asynchronous training covering essential topics to equip Advisers to provide best-practice college, career, and workforce advising to high school students;Develop comprehensive training materials, including presentations, handouts, guides, and multimedia resources;Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including partnership directors, advisers, and subject matter experts, to gather input and feedback on training needs to ensure the deliverables meet standards and objectives;Use email newsletter platforms and/or content management systems to create and distribute newsletters;Incorporate interactive and experiential learning techniques to engage advisers and enhance their learning experience;Create content tailored to diverse student populations, including first-generation college students, low-income students, and underrepresented minorities;Develop assessment tools and surveys to measure adviser comprehension and proficiency and gather feedback on training effectiveness and relevance;Follow continual quality improvement processes to assess training and improve delivery; andConvey complex information in a clear, concise, accessible manner.

To perform successfully as a Development & Training Specialist, you must be a self-starter with at least two years of Advising experience. The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree and will also be/have:
  • An understanding of college access processes, including research and exploration, admissions, standardized testing, application preparation, financial aid and scholarships, and college transition.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in education, particularly those relevant to high school students and college access.
  • Familiarity with various educational pathways, including community colleges, trade schools, and four-year universities.
  • Previous experience in college advising, education, training, or curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Familiarity with e-learning authoring tools like Articulate Storyline and instructional design best practices.
  • Ability to quickly adjust to changing priorities, unexpected challenges, and evolving project requirements.
  • Adept at identifying issues, brainstorming solutions, and troubleshooting problems independently, especially when faced with ambiguity.
  • Excellent time management skills while working in a virtual environment.
