This is a full-time, term position that can be performed primarily via an alternative work arrangement (i.e., remote work) during regular business hours.

The Data Analyst position involves work on a federally funded grant at the IRIS Center. The IRIS Center develops and disseminates engaging, interactive online resources about evidence-based practices to help teachers improve the education and behavior outcomes for all students, particularly struggling learners, and those with disabilities. Data is collected on all aspects of the center’s web analytics (i.e., using Google Analytics), dissemination, technical assistance, and training activities. The ideal candidate will be skilled in all aspects of data analytics, including collecting data, monitoring trends, and transforming and reporting data via reports that demonstrate achievement, progress, and growth, as required by the center’s funding agency.

About The Work Unit

Ranked as the #1 Special Education Program in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for well over two decades, the Department of Special Education has long been a leader both in research and practice.

Located within the Department of Special Education and supported by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the IRIS Center is a small group of incredibly dedicated and talented employees who work closely together to provide resources that are accessed on our barrier-free website over 4 million times per year.

The IRIS Center develops and disseminates free, engaging online resources about evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices to support the education of all students, particularly struggling learners, and those with disabilities. These resources, designed to bridge the research-to-practice gap, are intended for use in college teacher preparation programs, in professional development (PD) activities for practicing professionals, and by independent learners. The array of IRIS resources includes modules, case studies, information briefs, course/PD activities, a high-leverage practices alignment tool, and an online glossary of disability-related terms as well as supporting products to enhance their use in coursework and PD activities. All these resources are hosted for free on the center’s barrier-free website.

Duties And Responsibilities

Develop consumer surveys that align with funding-related requirements and the center’s evaluation plan

Set up Google Analytics functions that report relevant data in easily accessible formats

Gather and collect information and data (e.g., from IRIS consumers, Google Analytics)

Monitor data quality and remove corrupt data

Perform statistical analysis of data

Organize and transform information into comprehensible graphs and reports according to center- and grant-required deadlines (e.g., quarterly reports)

Identify and communicate anomalies and trends in data patterns through analysis of current and historical data

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility and reports administratively and functionally to the administrative manager.

Qualifications

Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in a business, computer science, mathematics, or statistics field and two years of relevant experience OR at least five years of relevant experience to replace educational requirements

  • Strong Excel skills, with aptitude for learning other analytics tools
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4 interface (coding, creating custom reports, validating data, exporting, and compiling data files into analysis-ready formats, etc.)
  • Experience in REDCap, Qualtrics, or related web-based survey platform
  • Knowledge of different types of data (binary, categorical, ordinal, and continuous)
  • Knowledge of analytic techniques (frequency distribution versus Measures of Central Tendencies)
  • Experience collecting, evaluating, and reporting data
  • Technical writing experience in relevant areas, including queries and reports
  • Experience with data visualization techniques
  • Experience in data coding, recoding, and cleaning

  • Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Willingness to jump in wherever needed with a solutions-focused mindset
