Position Summary

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures provides legal/general support to the firm's attorneys and their clients. Must be familiar with and observe the firm's established policies and guidelines. Must maintain positive contact with attorneys (both the firm's and outside counsel), support staff, clients and vendors. Observes confidentiality of client and firm matters.

The position is part of our real estate/renewable energy projects team, and is not limited to the functions and skills listed below and responsibilities will be revised as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Draft closing and conveyancing documents;
  • Analyze title reports, surveys, zoning certificates and other due diligence documents for acquisition and real estate project development;
  • Review purchase agreements, leases, easement and similar agreements, and prepare abstracts of same;
  • Organize and assist with closings; including finalizing closing binders;
  • Ability to review purchase contracts and loan documents and prepare closing checklists;
  • Perform all the necessary follow-up for all post-closing matters;
  • Work on multi-state loan/acquisition transactions;
  • Ability to access and search land records;
  • Coordinate recordation of deeds, deeds of trust, amendments, lot line adjustments, easements, covenants and other documents to be recorded;
  • Basic experience with organizational documents;
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter;
  • Ability to interact well with attorneys, staff and clients;
  • Good organizational, writing, and proofreading skills; and
  • Ability to track and meet deadlines.

Requirements

Education: Undergraduate degree and/or paralegal certificate required.

Experience: Entry level Case Assistant or Paralegal with at least 1-3 years of real estate legal experience preferred.

Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels. Ability to organize and prioritize issues and workload. The ability to work on projects independently or with little supervision. Flexibility and ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities. Exercising independent judgment and initiative.

Other

Pay Range: $52,000 - $95,000. This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith’s pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Equipment To Be Used: Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, fax, machine, copier, scanner, etc.

Typical Physical Demands: Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment.

Typical Mental Demands: Able to work effectively in a fast paced environment. Make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels.

Working Conditions: You will be required to work in the office at minimum 3 days per week. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule.
